apology game 3 feedback

My Apology

It seems generally Games 2 and 3 have sucked. What I've learned from that is, you guys probably don't want puzzle games or just my puzzles suck, either way I shouldn't try puzzles again.

The reason I'm making this post is to try and explain where/why/how things went wrong and beg for forgiveness... Plus ask that you give the game another chance.

It started with the Mansion game. I've learned a lot about what I did wrong:
  • 1. No sense of direction towards the objective.
  • 2. Lack of interactivity in objects + objects "randomly" being protected.
  • 3. Abuse of stealth made a lot of players feel alone.
  • 4. My own personal life also got in the way a lot and I wasn't able to give the game my full attention, leading to long rounds, mistakes and generally uninteresting things.

Now I got a lot of feedback (on site and off site) implying people wanted a less frantic & more peaceful game. So I tried to make Game 3 fit into that and initially it seemed to work with everyone putting a lot into the game... However it quickly feel apart. The feedback I've gathered so far suggests:

  • 1. Some people genuinely are too busy to devote time to it (although they seem to have time for Mafia so I'm suspecting there is another reason that people aren't telling me).
  • 2. Some people just don't like the peacefulness of it all. It doesn't keep their attention because there is no risk in not playing for a round. Various things like that.
  • 3. A few have had one or both of the above occur and found it difficult to get back into due to the information being displayed poorly. I was trying a new way of updating posts/actions where I post outcomes in replies and some of it is edited into the room description. It semi-worked but in a game where the puzzles can be longish it creates a lot of information to read through and retain, which takes us back to how my puzzles don't work very well.

As we do the final round (or not if none of you bother) I want to hear your thoughts on Game 3. Things you liked and things you disliked. If you went inactive, I need to know why because if it's something I did then I can change it for future games.

So yea. I'm sorry guys, I've let you down with these past two games but I'm hoping you'll play for the Halloween Mini-Game and/or Game 4 where I fully intend to stop screwing up and get the game back to how you all liked it.
