Carter v2 Extensions

The ideas here do two different things:

  • Improve general UX

  • Make the content more interesting -- helps with UX in a sense but also gives easy landmarks for backtracking

  • There are 10 Replies

    Crafting

You can craft items in ways that make sense, or scrap a composite into one of its ingredients (chosen at random). Things have to be the same color, however.

    Town improvements

  • Shops are exclusively for buying items and you can actually "complete" both shops and towns. Requires completing the junker as well however.

    Raw POIs

  • A special POI will allow you to obtain raw materials in exchange for keys. Each region has specific colors here which affects both.

    Collection Tools

  • You can buy collection tools which do various terco/magicsel (with some range) stuff. They have to be "activated" for some cost of colors or prisms (one of each color to make) and cost "energy" to use whether you're successful or not -- colors break down into energy and prisms are worth 2x the colors within them.

This allows you to fill out your collection in other ways -- Crafting would instead allow you to hit specific points in the collection grid easily so that the tools work better.

    Hub POI

The central tile (assigned first) is the Hub.

  • You can sell items at a different POI for a fraction of their value.

  • This fraction can be upgraded at Junkers (decelerating returns, +10%, +20 gold, initial 100).

  • The Hub allows you to move to other Hubs in one of the four directions (you pick) up to 10 tiles. Costs the same amount either way -- maybe 500.

  • The cost here is also upgradeable at a Junker (initial 200, +100 gold, -50 cost). Can eventually go to zero.

    More Mapping stuff

  • Houses have maps that get filled in as you move around.

  • A consumable Map will fill it in for you -- revealing doors and furniture (and their locked status), plus the total amount of treasure.

  • The Hub has a service that tells you all items present in every house in the area. It costs 200 gold and every time you use it, it updates -- but you don't have to buy it again. For another 1000 gold it'll also tell you *which* house each item is in. Again, you only have to buy this once per region.

  • The Hub has a Megamap service -- for 500 gold you get 7 tiles in each direction from where you are and can identify specific item categories. Again, buy once per Hub. It's better than moving around the world manually.

    Key Stuff

There needs to be additional ways of obtaining keys.

At the moment you can buy them at a Junker, or make them at a Keymaker (3 of items that color).

My thinking here is that you can fish them up at a special POI -- you get Head, Shank, Throat and Bit in any color. This takes real time. You need all four to make a key.

The time can be improved by feeding it Prism Keys (costs one of each key). Should be 10 seconds initially and go down by 1 with each Prism key, eventually minning out at 1. Prism Keys can also increase lake stock (+1 per prism key) and increase the amount of lures you can attach at a time (the default is 1). Each +10% or -10% counts as a lure, so it costs a single prism key to improve this.

Keylake POIs have a limited stock but can pull out any key pieces whatsoever.

You can make Lures -- it's 10 of a specific key part to weight that one by 10% in either direction, and 5 keys to weigh by color 10% in either direction. Expensive obviously but the system improves itself over time.

Directional percentages work like this: by default each type of part/color combo has the same percent chance. Adding 10% to something subtracts the same amount from the other areas, whereas subtracting adds it instead. When something hits 100%, you're just going to always catch that.

    Area Completion

Fully completing an area gives you a big perk -- to do this you need to clear out every single POI. Houses, towns, fishing spots, raw POIs.

The bonus is that some Bonus Chests spawn and appear on your map -- these can contain any item whatsoever, along with stuff that you'd otherwise find in Junkers, and basically any item in the game otherwise. Includes Vouchers for Hub services as well.

The downside is you only have a limited amount of time to raid them, so you need to plan your route carefully from the hub to raid as many as possible. Both the map and the overworld tell you how much time you have remaining. You can't leave the map while this is happening.

    Cart stuff

There's more items now, so a dedicated Key Chest doesn't make sense. Instead it just stores everything present here and has infinite storage.

    Junkers

    Junkers sell the following:

  • +1 inventory slot (starts at 50 gold, +10 gold each time)

  • A Magic Chest (starts at 100 gold, +50 gold each time)

  • Keys of varying colors -- 20 gold each.

  • A collection tool (1000 gold so pretty damn expensive)

  • Hubsell upgrade

  • Hubmove upgrade

  • Maps

  • Hub Vouchers for each service (costs 1/2 as much as the actual service, rounded down).

  • Grab bags of key parts -- I'm thinking you get 8 and it costs the same amount as one key.

  • Battery -- costs 200 gold and gives you 20 energy when fed to a Prismizer. Useful!

Each junker has 3-5 items available for sale.

    Prismizer

The Prismizer Cart fixture does the following:

  • Allows you to turn items into 1 color of their color. So a green tuber would turn into 1 green.

  • Turn colors into energy. 1 color = 1 energy.

  • Turn batteries into 20 energy.

  • Turn 5 energy into a color of your choice.

  • For 5 of some color, you can flip an item's color. Doesn't work with Keys, not that you'd want it to.

    Keymaker

The Keymaker fixture does the following:

  • Turns 3 of a single color into the appropriate key.

  • Turns all four key parts of a single color into the appropriate key.

  • Turns 1 of each key type into a Prism Key.

  • Turns a Prism Key back into its individual keys.
