Later, and will probably get brought up again, but there isn't enough of an explanation for each message and where the magic actually came from. I think in MO's case it went through myrddin again, though there is something in Aety's perspective I can use -- them flying close to yellow branches. I'm going with the attraction angle, so Aetos should move towards it.
Same deal with the purpose of having two separate maps. The original idea was getting trajectories but it seems like it would be useful for AX's spatiality warping too. Thelma should get the past positions of AX, so that their powers combined means the present positions. Fits the swells/tearsuns thing.
Uhhh why are the first sprouts sensing each others thoughts magically for the first time? Didn't they do that already? Make it more clear. Also I think the gradient happened with KIN too so use that one for inspiration.
I still have two explanations for swells in 28-1 and presumably 29-1. Need to fix. Actually this is complex and confusing, it looks like the second explanation both repeats *and* references the first one..WTF was I thinking? Idk see heavy analysis comment below.
The joining with swells in order to create magic thing doesn't make sense either. Also the magic comes from ax who is tied to all of the swells at once. I need to do deep analysis again.
It needs to be clear that the Fae generated the messages, and the siblings sending them out was part of the ritual. Also prayer plays a bigger role than it used to -- I think these are items for updating the climax and/or the ESCZR segments.
And the wild time travel shenanigans of the message in the first place was a *crucial* part of the Fae ritual, and possibly set up by them -- so indicate that somewhere. Maybe in the Inhatcheta segment, since it happens there too. The Kawan one possibly as well, or Sutap. Looks like it's also going to be heavily hinted in 19. There's a variety of ways to subtly hint at Fae -- tiny scales that can't fully be captured for example. The word "noxious" too (that one's more obvious though). Also madness and the desire to plunge the world into chaos.
Why is the swells clue within Nonaxe? Totality? Oh it's the magic aspect of it. God I need to do heavy analysis on this.
If it doesn't break the pacing, the seven siblings should actually send out their message in that section, and how they get it to repeat and guide second sprouts and stuff.
Sutap's faith in chapter 29 here should be based on the idea that NK can do something about the second sprouts. Sending magic is already known by this point. Might still be a problem after the rewrite, might not.
I've done some work here, but I think part of what's happening is that Naggirps doing the Aety thing to change the life-branches gave everyone *way* more knowledge (Sutap seeing the totality of the Source Ygg for example). This should be important -- it's a way of working with infinities (Jadzia's power, and Q/T's eventual map, and the swells of course).
If I drop the swells mention (definitely need to), I need to drop it out of Ellis's ending in this vignette too. Also I feel like there's more joke potential there.
Obviously the Kawan section right after CZSER joins needs revision.
I'm thinking Q's super short vignette should form the map. That fixes the length and corrects some stuff here too. I do like the bombastic nature of this vignette took so I'd want to reinforce that more in the new version since it otherwise won't be as strong.
Ellis should just become a swell-son himself. I think this needs even more work. There should be smoke involved too.
The explanation given for the second sprouts no longer makes sense. Also need to list out who these are and what they're doing exactly.
With the Unsaw stuff out of the way (mostly), this is the next major project.
A full rewrite really makes the most sense here, preserving important story beats wherever possible. The current version is all kinds of confused, much like Barrett's original plans were.
The purpose of the swells was twofold:
Sending messages back in time from their instances.
Using the Faeheim one to create Melia's Might.
Using the other one to give Philipp, Fifi, Qadira and Thelma a connection to AX. The fact that they joined with the Ashnode that AX was rooted in is important here. The power itself just made the link permanent and unidirectional.
The swell-son is still used to shove Ellis into the life-tree. Not sure yet how he moves the completed map to Jadzia. The 28b-N/J fix is probably essential here -- Naggirps is also moving something between life-branches. And this happened another time, too -- transferring speed from Naggirps to Philipp. Fixing 28b-N/J and then reinforcing the link both here and in the Philipp area will allow for this fix.
The current aspects of the map is also fine, fitting in well with the overseer / first eye thing. What that *means* needs work.
The map is needed because of the weird spatiality effects of Spriggan magic. My thinking is that they start constantly moving, so you'd need both maps to know where they are at any particular time. Send a green bolt out where they currently are, and they'd be somewhere else before it struck.
Both message types get sent out through the object in question, along its temporal reed. It can affect anything that's physically close enough for their Source Ygg branches to be attracted together.
Tearsuns/inswellians send the temporal reed into the future. Swells, meanwhile, send it into the past, so you can actually affect events that cause a swell to be created. The tearsun/Tears' Son angle is still a bit fuzzy here, but the swells angle makes sense. Still needs work I guess. A good starting point though.
To manipulate time, you have to be close to the swell-son. It's also responsible for local xylempsing and the stronger kind that operates outside the tears-tree. You can get some of this if you root into the tears-tree for long enough.
there is actually a perfect moment for the future hypothesis -- MO being bound into the same tree. That would allow Olivia's message to be sent later on (which does happen).
So the same would be true for tearsuns. The main event here is Aquileo flying close to it and then sending out the message just a little bit before Aquileo actually leaves (the timing does fit).
With swells, the opposite is true -- the reed goes backwards, so you send the message before they're attracted by the swell. This all lines up and is the most concrete aspect.
The only problem that still remains is that the swell-son is still going backwards in time to enter the reed (which boosts it I guess). Not necessarily a problem, should have an easy fix.
*However*, Kawan and Sutap both sent messages *way* back in their past. And Kawan's "Kawan felt" thing gets echoed through time as well. Maybe this is unrelated; you can just affect your own past if you're a brother/sister. These are closed loops too -- the temporal thread exists because you xylempsed the past. Maybe this is the key. The problem is that Sutap was piggybacking on tearsun power. Or maybe he wasn't.
If I go this route, Ellis could affect his own whimsical decisions by making them happen intentionally. For fun! He *is* very spriggan-like.
The easiest explanation is that all the powers come from AX in some capacity, since AX is bound to the Ashnodes and all power transfer is related to them:
Getting its knowledge makes sense, as well as its movements.
Melia's Might is a bit trickier. Maybe that's coming from the Fae instead. Hell, maybe they *all* are.
This means that the swell power is being used up for some other reason.
Also, Naggirps freeing the life-branches might play a role. There's hints for this (like Nonaxe sensing totality without this being an issue). AX *is* in the life-tree so maybe this is the key. And this would also explain how Melia's Might could be moved by Ellis once he goes in the life-tree.
If you're a sibling and you're in the presence of the swell-son, you can fuck around with your own mind. This doesn't take power; it's just changing sensations rather than anything concrete.
So Kawan fucks around with his mind to bring him here. This does actually offer a good explanation for the plot hole of Zoelle trusting Ryden. And Ellis does all kinds of stuff on a whim so he'd make those reasons more concrete too (again, for fun!). No need to mess around with Sutap. Maybe Ryden could fuck with himself too when he lost faith -- red riders being there is also a good explanation, granted, but I do like the faith angle of it. Could always be both. Ah yes, this is a good explanation of how Naggirps knows that making Ashcairns is important too. And perhaps KN having future knowledge of how "important" BYSELF/Faeheim are too. I'd want to use a certain word with this kind of feeling and not use it anywhere else to strengthen the explanation. "Fateful" is a hilariously good choice.
To send a message through a tearsun, it has to currently be in totality, and this will then *cause* totality. If you don't use it, it'll just have reached totality for some other reason.
This explains Rainshade's tearsun, as well as the ones that Sutap hooked into to send himself a message over and over. The problem here is that totality doesn't last. Unless the cyclore-maws extinguished them of course.
Myrddin would also have to be in totality when Inhatcheta hooked into him. Easy enough, he'd still be shivering and just stop after she does this. It's a better reinforcement anyway, I think.
