day 1 a time of peace or maybe not

Posted May 4, 2013 by `Roxas`

Than this of White Thunder and his Helius. Alas, the star cross't lovers were known to have killed themselves before the game even started, knowing that their love for one another could not be in such a wretched town. The story is said to be one of terrible tragedy. Each came from opposing sides of a terrible feud, one that had taken many lives. It is believed that Helius had been banished from the town when he killed White Thunder's cousin, Black Lightning. White Thunder, who had gone into a downward spiral of drug abuse and recklessness, was thought to be dead just days after his lover's banishment. Helius would catch wind of the news and rush back home to confirm the travesty. As he hung over White Thunder's motionless body, Helius took a knife to his throat, blood flowing down the front of his body and spurting out onto White Thunder. Unfortunately, White Thunder awoke from the coma he had been in, just to see his beloved Helius dead before him. He knew that Helius always carried a gun, and so put an end to his own life with a shot through the head.

In the process of mourning the youth's deaths, the town hardly noticed the arrival of the Mafia. All would not be well for days to come, and a most dire situation is upon the citizens. The only way to survive is to kill, plain a simple.

And so, a new day rose from the darkness of night. The town knew that there would be little time of peace left as trouble would be staring them in the face as soon as twilight. A long day of deliberations lay ahead for the citizens, but Death lingers around the corner, waiting for His first victim

Anyway, having a look at the roles, this is also a very power-based game of sorts. All the best power roles for both sides, and the Mafia has practically the biggest opening ratio ever. We really need that Sensor to survive awhile and produce some good results - I feel a bit overwhelmed by the idea of us having to take down six Mafia from the get-go.

He didn't mean anything by it chief, he didn't list you as dead, he just showed the top people (Redack being #2 between you and Dooku on the actual list) for reference on his prediction of Redack dying today/tonight.

We usually vote for No Kill on Day 1 anyways.

all mafia members from last game were probably moved to Townie, so there's a good starting point.

That may not be the case though. It all depends really. They don't pick and choose who's who, but I'm sure you already knew that anyway.

Just in case you guys overlooked it, I have reason to believe Speed Bike Pro is town-sided. He slipped once again and accidentally revealed his role to those who examine replies thoroughly.

i'm the ufo hunter
-Speed Bike Pro, Day 1

What tipped me off was the "i'm the ufo hunter." It indicates to me that he is town-sided, but not only that, he's also the UFO Hunter. I know I could have simply not brought attention to this in hopes that the mafia would overlook it, but I'm not a fan of playing under the assumption that the mafia won't notice these things. I think Speed is in a very dangerous position right now and will likely be killed in the following night.

You should probably reveal any information you learned from Night 0 before you die.

If Roxas uses the list randomizer, then who were Mafia last time has nothing to do with who is Mafia this time, it's purely random.

According to the current tally, we have 1 vote for Pirate_Ninja, 1 vote for Castrael, and 14 votes for Roxas. I think that's enough to end the day round.

Just to note, the Sensor ONLY gets results on kills. Should the Governor stop a kill, no clear cut decision is reached by the end of the 72 hours, or there is a tie in votes, the Sensor will NOT receive feedback.

I have participated in two games prior to this one, including the failed abortion of the power pack version. In Mafia 16, chief was an alien. In Mafia 17.1, chief was mafia. That is a 100% success rate of being not-townie. Therefore, he is my leading candidate for death.

LOL @ PN -- oh that was so bad it was good...

Anyway, I have my senior percussion recital in two and a half hours and my mind is everywhere but on this game right now -- I'll see what more I can contribute once this is over and my mind is back in order, but for now it's the usual Day One No Vote. Sure, chief was a bit defensive, but most of the time that's his style. Claiming Townie on Day One when no one suspects anyone is cause for concern, but I'll let that slide for now since it's only Day One and we have the rest of the game to go yet...

What is the difference between No Vote and No Kill again? Does the denominator decrease if you pick "no vote"?

What is the difference between No Vote and No Kill again? Does the denominator decrease if you pick "no vote"?

No kill is an official vote not to kill anyone, not voting means you give up your vote completely for the day - so yes, it decreases the denominator.

Female Alpha Wolf

Buncha jokesters here :P

Anyway, I'm inclined to agree with Dooku that with a Sensor present, it's preferable to lynch than to vote 'no kill' if we have any inklings at all. It's also way, way preferable to lynch someone than to have the Vigilante kill someone, so the best strategy would be to have the Vig lay low unless the Sensor gets taken out.

Also, roleclaiming ANYTHING is a recipe for disaster as long as the Assassin is in town. This means that the Cop and Sensor are going to have to pick their times to claim very carefully, especially without a Doctor--you're dead meat the moment you reveal, and the Assassin will be able to take you out without even wasting a nightkill. Both will have to collect as much information and delay revealing as late as they think they possibly can before they get taken out.

May 5, 2013
white lancer

...unless they PM someone and that person posts the results...

Anyway, not much to go on yet. I can't tell if y'all are joking around or deadly serious; hard to tell through the Internet.

That said, Chief's early Townie claim does raise some red flags. Sure, he claims vanilla Townie in almost every game he plays a Townie in, but never this early on. Usually that happens around the third or fourth day round, and then usually when he falls under suspicion. To claim this early on is almost completely unlike him.

It something we should be used to by now. We do it just about every game. It's hard to pick someone to lynch on the first day with very little or nothing to go on.

And as of right now, we have 3 players who have not posted anything yet. And we still have about 3 1/2 hours left in day 1.

I agree with the Sensor thing but I feel like it would do more harm than good to get Sensor results on Day 1. As much as some people would like to accuse someone based on how they combed their hair one particular time, I feel like we won't get any REAL material for investigation until Day 2. As things stand now, we would be taking a shot in the dark and the risk of killing a town-based role would be likely. Yes, yes, I want to kill as much as everyone else... But now is not the time for murder.

Actually, we'd have a better chance of hitting a Mafia member than a Town power role if we killed randomly (though we'd definitely have a better chance of hitting someone Town-sided than Mafia-sided). I've never been especially keen on the idea of simply randomly voting, and our odds of hitting a Mafia member aren't great right now. As such, I'm okay with the idea of a No Kill vote, even if I'm not certain it's necessarily the best course of action. But I do think that as long as the Sensor is alive, we should play more aggressively and be more willing to act on whatever suspicions we have.

Sorry about the lack of posting so far this game. I'm in the process of moving out of my apartment at school, so I took the weekend to move a bunch of unnecessary stuff to my parents' place. Didn't really have too much internet connection over the weekend.

For what it's worth, I usually hate doing a No-Kill on Day 1. It's counter-productive. Especially with the Sensor. However, I must admit that I don't know of anyone I would want to vote for at this moment. It seems so far that everyone's just been silly as opposed to suspicious in any way.

I won't vote for now because that seems to scare people. But I may end up voting soon.

I would entirely be up for using the Sensor today, but I'm never fond of randomly voting people off. If we could get some serious suspicions, I would definitely go for it though. But today will be the usual mandatory no-kill, so let's speed that along and hope the night brings some good info.

May 6, 2013
Trever Leingod

For the sake of not being repetitive, I agree with Speed, Yeano, and Trever. I also think white lancer has a good point about acting aggressively. The strongest hope we have for the beginning of this game is the sensor. Excluding day 1, that is.

Because that allows Day 2 and onward to be more eventful? And we have to start somewhere, right?

Excellent idea, I'll do that next time I host. It will get rid of the annoyances of Day 1 being way too pointless.

May 6, 2013
Trever Leingod

If Day 0 occurs before Night 0, then it's a pointless addition and we're still stuck with a shitty Day 1. If Day 0 occurs after Night 0, then it's the exact same thing as Day 1 except now we're not allowed to vote at all.

Am I missing something? It seems like a wasted addition that will only slow down the game even more.

May 6, 2013
The Bandit

The idea was that Day 0 would serve as the standard No Kill day, because no one would be able to vote. It would be touted as the day when everyone arrives in town. Night 0, then, would work as it has in the past -- no killings. Day 1 would be like the first full day in town, and that is when we would start voting and lynching/killing.

...rather than wasting posts in-game, let's wait until after the game to finish this discussion.

May 6, 2013
Black Yoshi

I like the idea. We should definitely do that next round.

May 6, 2013
Castrael

Either that, or we can have Night 0 extended a bit, and have Night Talk on for that duration, so you get in the ice-breaking appearances of Day 1 and the Night 0 actions done simultaneously.

May 6, 2013
Trever Leingod

Specifically, extend Night 0 to 48 hours and have on Night Talk. That should be plenty of time to decide on night actions and do pre-Day 1 ice-breaking.

May 6, 2013
Trever Leingod

The round is over, so I don't see what the problem is. Obviously I'll shut up in Day 2.

I don't think we always vote No Kill because of "ice breaking" or whatever. I think it's because we never have info to go on and no one wants to random kill and accidentally hit the Cop. Extending the amount of time we go without the info gained from night rounds will slow the game down considerably

Unless you mean that Day 0 is like a skipped round, where the thread is just totally locked, and we get a double night round, it seems like a bad idea in my opinion. Actually, having a double night round is also an even shittier idea. The best thing I can think of is shortening the time limit of the first day round. Keep the number of votes required consistent throughout the game, but have Day 1 be only 24 hours long. After that, bump it back up to whatever the standard is.
