The other day, I posted about Polybius, the haunted arcade machine. Today, we look at another set of urban myths, this time involving the popular characters of the Mario universe.
Mario walks with aliens? Luigi a ghost? Daisy a mutant? Well, let's see.
1. Mario walks among aliens
This myth comes from something disturbing that was discovered in Super Mario Galaxy 2. In the level, Shiverburn Galaxy, at the very beginning, if you turn to the left and look at the background, mysterious shadowy figures can be seen watching you.
Closer look:
Those figures are not seen anywhere else in the game. Not disturbing enough? Someone hacked into the disk to get to the bottem of this. Instead, they only gave us more questions. The file for the alien images it called "HellValleySkyTree".
Hell Valley? In a Mario game?[
Those things don't look like trees to me either. Just what was Nintendo thinking, by putting aliens from Hell in their game? So this one is TRUE. Mario DOES walk among aliens.
2. Luigi is a ghost.
To make this even more disturbing, the reason Luigi, in Luigi's Mansion, is a ghost is because he offed himself.
In one of the upper rooms, where Luigi answers a telephone, if you stare at the wall behind the chest and wait for lightning to strike, you can see a shadow of Luigi's dead body hanging from the ceiling.
Just Luigi's regular shadow? Nope. Luigi has his arms by his head as he talks on the phone. The shadow's arms are hanging by it's sides. Creepy, huh?
While the shadow does exist, it is likely some sort of glitch with the games lighting. Bad of Nintendo NOT to catch it.
So is Luigi a ghost? I would say Undetermined.
3. Daisy is a mutant.
This one is EASILY false, and can be explained away as a goof.
In the Japneesee and early US versions of Super Smash Brother's Melee, Daisy has THREE eyes. This can be seen on the Dasiy statue once you unlock it. Once you do, get a close up look at the back of her head, under her hair.(Can be done by focusing the camera on the bottem of her crown)
Since the third eye was removed it later versions of the game, it was an obvious unintentional screw up by the animators.
Well, that's it for today. More video game urban myths coming soon!
