foxit reader or adobe acrobat reader

Posted March 7, 2011 by Ryu 1/8192

Which one is better?
Adobe seems nice but it is also rather bulky but Foxit seems smaller and does everything Adobe can do?

Which one is better?

BOTH ARE INFERIOR

I've never used Foxit, but I can assure you that Adobe pisses me off each time I use it.

I installed Foxit because I was tired of Acrobat bringing my computer to a grinding halt for seventeen seconds any time I had the misfortune of stumbling upon a .pdf file. Since then I've never had a problem.

GHOST IN THE MACHINE: I agree about Adobe Acrobat Reader. It can slow down the computer and I don't like that it has done stuff and allowed access to my comp without my knowledge.

Pirate_Ninja: I just uninstalled Adobe and used Foxit and you are right..it is MUCH better.
It is a slimmer program and does everything I need it to do.

I also switched from AVG antivirus to Avast!
Very nice too..again Avast! is slimmer and takes up less resources.

I was torn between Avast and Malwarebytes but chose Avast because it scans incoming E-Mails whereas MalwareBytes doesn't.

I am considering downloading Spybot but I already have Spyware Blaster, CCleaner and Glary Utility sp I wonder if I really need another program to scan for malware and stuff.

Foxit is nice and lightweight. I try to clean up the interface to my liking but it's a bother every time I install it somewhere. It's the best one as far as resource consumption goes, especially if you're only using it to view pdf documents.

Only thing I use Acrobat Reader for was to fill out government forms with input boxes that needed error and consistency checking. Was too lazy to see if Foxit had any other functions or add-ons to see if it was practical to do the same thing since it didn't do it out of the box.

Hmmm..never thought of that but I am sure Foxit allows for stuff like that too.

Actually I am sometimes surprised that Adobe is as bloated as it is considering there are others that do what it can do without eating up RAM or other resources.

For that matter I wonder if Photoshop falls prey to the same thing..eating up resources and all thought I'd rather use my resources on that than an a PDF file reader.

I know I'm a month late to the thread, but...

The free version of Malwarebytes is an on-demand scanner only and won't interfere with Avast, so if you want you can totally have both installed. Malwarebytes is considered one of the best malware removal tools out there so it just might come in handy in case of emergencies.

And I agree, Adobe is a bloated animal and the extra crap it installs just makes things more frustrating. Adobe AIR? No thank you.
