The Story

Epilogue

As the battle ended the prototype vessels self destruct initiated. The surviving crew look to each other, clearly upset that their only escape from this planet just went up in flames... That is until they realise that someone must've set the ship to self destruct two turns ago! The entire crew look to Xhin in anger.

After the mutiny is successful, Count Dooku, the chief of security and veteran of the Arachnarion-Blubbermen War, reads out the list of charges against Xhin:
  • Mass murder of a peaceful insectoid species.
  • Destruction of the Biosphere.
  • Theft of the Prototype Vessel when the crew needed it to escape the station.
  • Murdering a Hive Stalker.
  • Committing genocide on a peaceful insectoid species (resulting in their complete extinction).
  • Authorising the station self destruct when the crew were still onboard.
  • Failure to comply with EarthGov Protocol 35225 which states the station computer must not be left behind.
  • Stranding the crew on a hostile planet.

During the reading, Xhin dies of his poisoning (caused at the start of round 19 when he stepped on a poisoned dagger left by poptart).

Satisfied that they have their justice, the crew begin founding a new civilization... Although with no women around it would quickly devolve into a primitive society of drinking contests, sports, video games and a religion based entirely on worshipping the iPad Nuke... Though with no means to reproduce, they quickly died out.

No one ever heard from Yeano the Cyborg again. Even to this day he has never returned to society, some say they've seen him running across the barren wastes. Some say he was driven mad by his own brilliance and became something more than a cyborg... I guess we'll never know what happened to that loyal cyborg... (He died from poisoning caused by poptart, just like Xhin did.)

    Round 19

The final confrontation begins in the ruins of the mining facility.

Helius begins by threatening to detonate an iPad Nuke he created... The very nuke created by the station's own Medic: Jo Nathan! Fortunately he doesn't have the keycode and cannot detonate it.

poptart tries to burrow underground before anyone pays him attention, unfortunately almost everyone present does pay him attention and fire rapidly at him. His body melts away into a pink gloop.

The humans respond by opening fire on Helius. In a last ditch effort to enact some revenge, the devious alien attempts to poison the very air they are breathing. Fortunately for the humans he was too slow (decided by a roll) and his body melted away into green bloop before he could do anything.

In the midst of the battle the Captain, Xhin, calls out to Yeano the Cyborg and orders him to flee hoping that if everything went to hell at least one of their crew might survive... Compelled to obey by his cyborg programming Yeano snuck away from the battle.

    Round 18

The station self destructs but everyone still alive manages to get into an escape pod just in time... Now with everyone on the plant surface it looks like the final showdown between human and alien is about to begin!

    Round 17

A fire-fight breaks out and MajorasMask9 is horrifically killed by an explosion! The captain authorises station wide containment protocols to prevent further spread of the Hive, unfortunately this means the station will self destruct!
Plans to add further locations to the planet surface were scrapped, the host believes that forcing everyone into a single area on the planet will allow the game to end quicker thus allowing us to apply lessons learned from this game sooner :)

    Round 16

Local activity reporters suggest there is little to report as the humans cower in fear and the aliens sneak around doing their thing. They do suggest that the inter-dimensional entity Redack may in fact be planning to add new areas on the planet surface and that hours (rounds) may be shorted from three days down to two! Those who read this might want to comment on what they think about it!

    Round 15

The Bar explodes... The Biosphere explodes... You guys really want to destroy my station don't you!
Meanwhile someone returns station gravity to normal and the Hive begins a rapid expansion.

    Round 14

Not satisfied with screwing up the station's gravity, someone has now shut off the Oxygen Generator! The occupants also recieve a message from their friendly neighbourhood Spider-Medic.

    Round 13

Someone has increased the Gravity being generated for the station! Elderly crew members, who require reliable and stable gravity, have filed a complaint as it now takes them even longer to cross the road (no offence to those of us who are older than Redack & thus elderly).

    Round 12

One daring member of the crew attempts to negotiate with the Hive whilst everyone else wonders wtf happened in the Medic Room.

    Round 11

Someone breaches the hull in the Medic Room, permanently sealing it off. Sadly, someone was trapped inside and is sucked out into the vacuum of space!

    Round 10

Castrael the alien is burned alive! The station chef declares New N' Tasty now on the menu, in a statement he insisted there was no connection!

    Round 9

(Nothing I can put that doesn't give away information so here's some filler!)
The station is declared a health and safety disaster zone by EarthGov inspectors who shortly after making that bold statement were found dead, it is believe they tripped over a loose cable.

    Round 8

After the series of exciting events, occupants of the station opt to continue exploring and gathering information as they attempt to figure out the meaning of their lives. Meanwhile, the aliens are no doubt plotting to overthrow them!

    Round 7

The power is back. Unfortunately the systems malfunctions have allowed the escaped creature to secure it's position and disable containment protocol.

    Round 6

Count Dooku declares Caestrel to be an alien & Lancer to be a Golem and so the crew must decide if they believe him or not. Meanwhile in the Power Generator a kind soul switches the power core back on.

    Round 5

Emergency lights are on and the people can see again! Alliances and enemies are forged as the occupants begin to see the severity of their situation. Meanwhile in the Bio-Lab Gratchius is found dead.

    Round 4

With the power off the occupants of the station cannot see each other. Some become paranoid that they aren't alone in the room as others use the darkness to their advantage. Fortunately someone has the clever idea of turning the emergency lights on!

    Round 3

Someone turns the power off whilst the unsuspecting occupants of the station continue to explore.

    Round 2

The occupants continue to move around and mingle. No major events occur.

    Round 1

The players awaken in the respective locations with no memory of their colleagues or themselves. Their only clues are in their inventories, revealing to themselves who they are and what they can do!

    Game over.

    The humans won.

    Scores will be done soon.

Expect a couple of posts regarding my thoughts on this game (and the future), scores, and sign ups for game 2.

I hope everyone enjoyed it, I certainly enjoyed hosting & watching it :)

I think there were a couple flaws with the setup, but we can fix that easily enough :)

Also before anyone asks, deaths in the epilogue (Xhin & Yeano) won't affect victory or survivor points.

May also be giving out a few pity points (definitely something for Castrael who sat in the dead thread for like half the game... I've a few ideas to make dead not be as boring for future games).

I had my doubts at first after being locked in a room for 2 months. And then along came Redack(hug)

    You did a hell of a good job and I had a great time playing. Hope all my dumb post didn't give you a Headache{:P}

Only the next time we play another Alien game, you need to come up with a way to sneak some women into the game, even if you have to make it up.

Spending the rest of your day's with a bunch of hairy legged dudes.

"Things that make you want to go brr!!"

Also, I stuck everyone in the archive room for the moment... This gives you access to the archive post (be warned now it is massive with 807 replies).

Basically that's where all your replies went to when I updated the round. It is not structured but heck, if you feel bored and want to read what people said and did (outside of sneak actions) then go have a look.

If you have the time, the Archive Room is a must read.
    Some very funny stuff and good insight into the game, shows you were not the only one doing a lot of nothing{:P}

It's actually 600 and something replies for you guys since some of them were done as "sneak".

    Dang, the archive is massive...

    So Helius, I couldn't find the part where you found my nuke (I'm assuming you were in sneak mode that whole time). Was it really that bad of a hiding place? {:?}

Also, in regard to alternate games to play on this forum, you totally need to add a Virtue's Last Reward one (it's a 3DS/Vita visual novel/puzzle game) to the list. Earlier I tried to write up a description of every detail of the mechanics of VLR, but it was way too complicated and totally wouldn't work in its entirety as a game here. The core mechanics, however, would be pretty fun IMO.

VLR places an emphasis on trust and betrayal, and gives you pretty direct control over your choice in the matter. In the game, the characters are kidnapped and brought to a warehouse, with bracelets locked on their wrists. Their main goal in the game is to escape through a door labeled with a "9" on it. In order to open the 9 Door, they need to attain 9 "Bracelet Points" (BP). Everyone starts out with 3 BP. In order to gain BP, players face off in an "Ambidex Game" (AB Game), which is held about once every two hours IIRC(?). In the actual game, the AB game pits 1 player against a pair of players (for all 9 players), but this could be changed for gtx0 if it's ever used.

The AB Games are a straight up prisoner's dilemma scenario. One player goes up against another player, and both are given the option to "Ally" or "Betray." If both players choose "Ally", then they each walk away with +2 BP. If both players "Betray", they walk away with no change in their BP. If one player chooses "Betray", and the other chooses "Ally", the player who picked Betray will get +3 BP, and the player who picked ally will get -2 BP. If a player reaches 0 BP or lower, they die. If at any point someone reaches 9 BP or more, they're free to open the Number 9 Door. Once the Number 9 Door is open, anyone with 9 or more BP can leave. Once they leave, however, the door closes, and can never be opened again. Everyone else is trapped, and the game is essentially over.

I've actually wanted to see something like this done in the past, but it didn't seem like it was possible to manage easily enough. With the mechanics of the Aliens forum, though, it could easily work IMO. The Ally/Betrayal aspect would be a nice gimmick to add on top of an exploration-type game, and would make the game feel less like a mafia clone. I'd be willing to come up with a detailed set of rules for something like this if it seems interesting enough.

Some of the themes in [d:299] lend themselves more to a trust/distrust form of gameplay.

If you want something closer to what you've asked for, type up a description like what I've done in that document and I'll see about adding it :)

Alright, came up with this summary earlier.

Good People Die - Free For All
    Introduction:
You awake trapped in a large Warehouse, surrounded by several others in the same situation. There's a digital bracelet on everyone's wrist displaying "3BP", and a door on the side of the Warehouse with a large number "9" drawn on it. Explore the rooms outside of the warehouse, and compete one-on-one against randomly selected players in a game of trust and betrayal to earn (or lose!) Bracelet Points. Only players with 9BP or more can open the large door and escape, and when they leave, the door can never be opened again!

    Victory Conditions:
-Escape through the Number 9 Door

    Scoring:
    5 points for successfully escaping
+(BP/2) points for everyone that isn't dead (ie, 8BP in game = +4 points at the end, with a limit of +5. Points are rounded up.)
Varying amount of points for completing any role-specific objectives.

Too bad we can't read the Sneak stuff--that's practically my entire game. I was paranoid...

    Great job, Redack. I had a lot of fun when I wasn't accidentally missing my turns. {:P}

@Majora, I'll give that a proper read some time and probably add it. Maybe at some point in the future you could co-host that game since you'll have a better idea how you want to do it than I will from just that :)

    @Lancer, I unsneaked everyone's actions :)

Redack, are the last couple rounds still located in the room threads? They don't seem to be in the archive.

Also... I can't believe I'd have gotten everyone killed if I didn't think to add the proximity detection to the nuke. (facepalm) That was such a close call.

And yes, great job. Even though I was running solo for most of the game, I still found it to be very fun.

Didn't bother to archive anything from the last two rounds. I tended to only archive when people were moving in to a room that had replies due to how I have to click each reply individually to archive it (so when you guys have your 50 reply posts it became a pain... Xhin's redo the archive tool for me so that it A, works and B, is easier to use.

Yea if only you'd said "it detonates next round" then helius would've brought it down with him and killed you all XD
