Welcome back, White Thunder! You've got your work cut out for you to set up this massive game, but I'll do what I can to help you out. I'm available for balance discussions and the like, if you want. ^^

And with this many players, multiple killing roles is a necessity IMO.

Oh boy {:P} this should be a fun one. Yeah, I'll probably have both a Vig and an Assassin. Still thinking about roles and the ratio; I might give the Mafia a large amount of players and bring back Cop/Doctor because we haven't had that combo in forever.

I know you're playing but I'd like your input on roles and what not. Also I'm not a mod anymore so I'll need help with all that kinda stuff.

I'm 100% willing to give input on roles and the like--I spent a lot of time discussing the game setup with both Helius and Count Dooku and both of those games turned out pretty well balance-wise IMO, so hopefully I'll be able to help out again. ^^ A game this size will be tough to balance, even if you decide not to go with the Mafia/Mob idea again, so it should be good to have two people looking at it all.

I'll be busier than I was before, but I should still have plenty of time most evenings to give input. Just be sure not to mention anything in this thread that you wouldn't want all the players knowing about! ^_~

Right. First thing is ratio. I'm thinking somewhere between 7-9 Mafia members. I'm leaning towards 8 right now. 18-8 seems about right, with Mafia having at least half of those being power roles and town having cop/doctor/vig and whatever other roles I feel like including. I'm also trying to think up possible new roles.

Possible new roles:

Apprentice: Learning the trades of the town, this role takes over for the first town-sided power role that is killed.

Security Whiz: Any night action taken against him will be voided, and the person who tried to perform it will appear to the town the next day as "burned". However, the skillful assassin can get past his defenses.

Lazarus: Each night picks someone to follow. If that person is responsible for his death (Vig, Assassin, Mafia member who voted for him) he will come back to life.

Also I have another role idea I don't want you to know about, all I need to know if it is possible to have a single player be allowed to post in two separate special role threads.

Sorry for the lateness in commenting--it's been a long day. Anyway, it'll be tough to decide how many Mafia members you want to have in a game this big--usually my rule of thumb is between 1/4 to 1/3 of the total players, but that may be a few too many in such a big game. 7-9 seems like it might be about right.

The Apprentice is actually a quite powerful role--I know I'd hate to play as Mafia while knowing that any Cop or other strong power role would automatically come back to life. Lazarus and Security Whiz are also pretty strong since either one has a good chance of catching a Mafia member (although the Whiz can be a double-edged sword since it can burn Town-sided players as well). Also bear in mind that every Town-sided power player you add makes the Assassin less powerful (you're almost at 50-50 with Townies and Town power roles right now), so if you keep all those roles in I would actually consider including a Mafia Investigator as well. If you do that, definitely keep to 7 Mafia members because that could be a quite potent combination.

It's not really possible to have people post in two different threads, unfortunately. The way the roles are set up, you can only have one at a time. A couple of options, depending on how the role plays out: 1) if one of the roles isn't an active role (e.g. they don't actually have to communicate with other players), you could just PM them their role and have them PM whatever actions they might have back to you. 2) You could...switch their roles whenever they ask, but this would potentially be a lot of work for you. 3) You could beg Xhin to get something set up for you before the game starts, though I wouldn't bank on that.

Oh, and have you considered any third-party roles? Those can help tweak the balance just a little bit without swinging it hard to either side. It wouldn't have to be anything crazy like a Serial Killer or anything (those are a little harder to balance), but even something like a Prosecutor or Defense Attorney could add an interesting dimension to a game this big. Just a thought.

I'll keep your suggestions about my new roles in mind. Still deciding but I'll probably use one, perhaps two and take away Governor and/or DV.

Since my idea won't work I wanna tell you what it was. I was going to have Secret Club Members, but unbeknownst to the town and one of the members the other member would also be Mafia. I feel like that would be really cool role for that Mafia member and throw off any role-claiming since I don't want to have Janitor.

Oh, and have you considered any third-party roles?

I have, right now I'm leaning toward not including them but still considering it.

Ah, I had an inkling that might be what it was. :) I've seen games with the Lovers where one was Mafia and the other wasn't. Unfortunately, there's no way it'd work with the setup we have now.

Would Lazarus be one-shot or unlimited? It would be a less scary role if it were one-shot.

Hadn't decided yet. If it was one shot I'd probably include another of my new roles; if it was unlimited I wouldn't, and probably no Governor either. The problem with making it one-shot is then the Mafia knows their role and can assassinate them, so it's kinda useless, whereas if it was unlimited they'd have a shot at following the assassin and being resurrected again.

Well, it wouldn't exactly be useless as a one-shot--even if the Mafia assassinated them the next round, they'd get a chance to take out the Mafia member who targeted them. That's a pretty potent power.

So that's what my baseline is. There are two changes I'm considering making because the Mafia is strong: one less Mafia member, and/or adding a Governor. Your thoughts?

If that would then make the town too powerful I could do one or both of those and then change the Vigilante to the Arsonist.

...it looks like you're missing about 8 Town-sided players. You only have 10 there. With that in mind, I don't know that the Mafia is too strong. They'd have to get double kills every night for 4 nights, without losing a single member, to even be in a position to win. If anything, maybe add another power role for the Town--14 vanilla Townies is kind of a lot.

Okay. It's difficult to tell how powerful the Apprentice will be for the Town (the Mafia better shoot to hit the Double-Voter first {:P}), as well as Lazarus, but I think that setup could work. Sorry I haven't been able to give as much input as I would have liked--just been busy.

Also, I haven't used it myself, but I believe the numbers at the bottom are used with the Randomize feature to randomly select roles.
