game 24 night 3 end of the line

Posted January 29, 2014 by MajorasMask9

(recap at bottom)

"There were two in the room with the notes pinned on the door, lying next to one another."

Monday, February 10th
1:25am

In the midst of the night, while the passengers were getting drowsy and nodding off to sleep, the end was beginning to draw near for some unsuspecting people...

Playful giggling could be heard from the Love Suite, and soon afterward one of the passengers walked out. "I'll be back sweetie~." The passenger was on their way to the Dining Car's bar.

The Dining Car was dark and empty. Everyone had left and returned to their cabins, doors locked. The passenger from the Love Suite walked slowly and cautiously to the bar.

*step*
    *step*
         *step*

She grabbed a couple of drinks to bring back to the Love Suite. She looked around the Dining Car and noticed the numerous vases with roses scattered across the many tables in the Dining Car. She took two roses from a vase and returned to the Suite with her lover.

"Did you miss me~" she said to her lover in an enticing voice. "Yeah" replied her lover. She walked over to him and placed the beverages on the table, not realizing her potentially fatal mistake--she forgot to lock the door to the Love Suite on her way in...

The lights were off. The two lovers were having a good time in their Love Suite together when all of the sudden... they heard the door creak open as light from the corridor slowly began to seep in... The dark silhouette of Black Yoshi stood before them, gazing at the two of them.

"Oh, this isn't the bathroom. My bad." Black Yoshi apologized for interrupting and walked off to seek out a restroom.

The two lovers were startled. Apollo Justice, one of the Lovers, got up to lock the door. It was as she was going toward the slightly opened door...

A sword suddenly pierced through the door and tore its way straight through Apollo Justice. The other Lover, hezekiah, looked in utter horror. "APOLLO NO!!!" The door slowly creaked open as Apollo tried to move back to her lover, the sword still pierced through both her and the door. A dark, evil silhouette was seen as the door opened. Hezekiah recognized him instantly. It was Redack, the Lazy Ninja. Redack, startled that he had been seen, ran off. Hezekiah grew angry... he wanted revenge... but he was more concerned for his Lover, Apollo. He turned to her. She had fallen to the floor off of the sword's blade. He would have called for a doctor, but the only medical expert on board the train had already met their end.

"It's... ok... hezekiah..." Apollo said to him, struggling with each word, desperately trying to convey a final message to her beloved. "I won't die... You see, I can't die... I'll... live on in your heart...

The tears... you'll cry... The tears for your lost love... The pain you'll feel... It will be from me, inside your heart... pounding against it trying to reach out to you once more and tell you how much I love you... So I'm sorry for the heartache... but I'll always be there with... y..o..u......"

Apollo Justice went silent. A single tear rolled down hezekiah's face. Hezekiah was outraged... he knew he wanted revenge...

He rushed out into the hallway and roared "REDACK!!!!!" He saw Redack run into one of the cabins. Hezekiah ran after Redack, following him into the cabin. He turned the lights on... but something was strange. There was no one in the room. Across the room a large window was opened. Had Redack jumped out? And if so, was it intentional, or was something even shadier going on? Hezekiah looked outside the window and noticed the large cliff the tracks were positioned on. Nobody could have survived a fall like that...

Morning came, and the passengers began searching for Redack. They went through each and every open room of the train, but to no avail. Redack had vanished. Was someone else responsible for this? Or was it merely a freak accident?

Hezekiah locked himself in the Love Suite. He noticed a letter in a typewriter on the desk that was written by Apollo the night before her death.

To my Dearest,

Ah, Night 2 on this train and we've yet to be interrupted... I know this isn't what either of us expected from a honeymoon, but with the little money we’d saved up after the wedding, all we could afford to travel by was this small, cozy, rickety train... I just would have never expected it to go like this, a constant of fear of being at death's door... Or being death's door itself.

I feel as though each night, I lie in fear, anguish, distress, but not of dying. I know my time may be to come soon, but what I worry for is not having you to love anymore. You've made my heart smile in ways I never believed possible... You've made me the happiest person in the world. The Mafia can break my body to pieces, but they’ll never break the ties that bind my heart to yours.

Even though this typewriter is quite the noisy contraption, I smile through the steady tears that fall as I hear your snoring overpowering even the loudest typing. Your mother was so thoughtful as to buy this typewriter for our wedding. Oh, how I've yearned to take up a life of writing... But now is different. I’m not simply living for myself... I'm living for us both.

This could very well be our last night together, with the Mafia lurking... I've also heard the Replacement could get involved... I'm not sure what to expect at this point, but who could?

Ah, I feel myself growing wearier by the minute. Perhaps it is time for me to put this writer down, and take a well-deserved rest, right here, next to you... my Lover. I hope to see you in the morning, after having only the sweetest dreams.

"Love is a promise; love is a souvenir, once given never forgotten, never let it disappear." - John Lennon

Hezekiah cried. His heart aching from the events that unfolded. He knew his Lover would want him to go on... but... he couldn't live with the burden. He couldn't live with the pain of losing the love of his life. He couldn't live with the burden of never being able to avenge his Lover's death.

Hezekiah walked over to the roses his lover had brought back the night before. He took one and placed it in her hand, above her chest. He grabbed the sword that was now laying on the floor in the corner of the room. He took the other rose, laid down beside his love, clenched her hand, and took his own life, right beside her. A tragic end to the story of the Lovers.

The passengers later found the bodies and decided to leave them there. They locked the door to the Love Suite and moved on.

The passengers gathered to discuss the events and decide on a new course of action for eliminating this horrible threat...

I guess the mafia forgot what happened last time they killed Apollo. But oh well, I won't be one to deny their request for an ass-kicking. It's not my booty on the line here...

Also, who voted for Redack day 1? That's right. This guy. Guess who I voted for Day 2? That's right. This guy (as in the one listed below) (not me).

    (it was black yoshi)

(as of the time of this post, I am not able to vote so this is a bit more anticlimactic than it seems)

    (how is everyone doing today)

Going through previous rounds to look at stuff and will post things that I find to be relevant whenever I feel like it, starting with:

Anyway I just got finished with Adventure. I'll spend some time reading over everything, expect me to be more active with better insight next day round :)

    -Redack

Sounds like you finished Adventure a little early there, bud, because you're about to be spending a lot more time with it! Because you died in Mafia! Therefore, your resources will be better spent on a game you're not dead in!

Thank you, thank you. No really folks, I insist. I'll be here all weekend. Try the veal cutlet, it's to die for. Or more appropriately, it's to... LYNCH for...

Going to reread everything as well, but regarding the Replacement:

The Replacement probably wanted to help the Town win and decided to pick who he thought was the most likely to be Town sided so he could join that team. I would consider the new Lazy Ninja to probably be someone who has historically expressed hatred at being on the mafia team. It could also be someone who already was posting a lot and trying to help the Town.

Or maybe he just hates Redack, idk.

    The Bandit

    Oh, and on Redack's vote:

I fully believe Redack knew what he was doing and expected all of us to follow him along with Hidenburg. But, the votes were like 3-3-1 with a few No Votes as well I think, so maybe he was just trying to show activity and muddle the waters with a throwaway vote.

If it's the former, then it's likely that all of the people who had votes were innocent. He can break the tie toward a guilty Feral/Cas and accomplish pretty much the same goal (it's arguably more effective that way), but if he breaks the tie on an innocent player he looks very suspicious.

If it's the latter, then I would assume that Feral or Cas were likely guilty.

Not much help, I guess, but it's something.

    The Bandit

More posts as my brain keeps working through this:

If anyone does feel strongly that Redack wasn't trying to throw a teammate under the bus, then we could argue that he and the Replacement were in cahoots. After getting a teammate killed, he felt like he couldn't effectively play mafia and host Adventure, so he asks his friend the Replacement to take him out so he can focus on one. Dooku would be the most likely candidate if this is what happened.

    January 29, 2014
    The Bandit

Especially since Hindenburg hadn't even used his power yet, I am sorta assuming that Redack threw him under the bus without expecting him to get the majority of the votes by the round's end. I see it as sort of a win-win for Reddy boy. Whether Hindy was lynched Day 2 or some later day, we would know he was guilty and Redack wouldn't seem very guilty at all since he was the first one to be like, "oh idk guess i'll vote for this guy LMAO".

As for the Replacement, I think they were merely either targeting a "power" player or they might've suspected Redack of being a power role. Whether or not they expected a mafia power role, I'm not sure. Either way, they now get a fancy new power and a new circle of buddies to play around with at night.

They're just going out and making some new pals so really, isn't there a Replacement inside of all of us? We could learn a lot from this model citizen, it's a shame they have to die just like the rest of the mafia insects.

    I agree with this one.

I still suspect Dooku as the Replacement. Or, he could just be a Townie. I mean, why would someone want to use their powers on a Mafia?

I smell a dirty mafia liar.

I'll think more on this. But, Shadowwalked and a few are on my list of suspects.

    January 29, 2014
    Castrael

Well, it looks like it's time for me to put on my mafia-killing face.

    Based on Apollo Justice's analysis:

As opposed to people I am fairly confident are guilty, I'm more confident about certain people being innocent. That being said, I'd be comfortable voting for anyone who hits me the wrong way or is unusually inactive, like Moonray (though this was accounted for somewhat), Count Dooku, or chiefsonny.

Since Apollo was town sided, I think it's well worth taking into account her previous posts, especially since she had correctly deduced that Moonray was mafia.

Furthermore, I think it's worth taking Speed's suspect into account, but I'm going to read through everything again so that I can get a better idea.

Based on this, I think it's fair to add:

    Count Dooku

    Chiefsonny

    Black Yoshi

To the Suspected Mafia pile, as far as potential mafia go.

But this is where it gets tricky, because only two of the mafia are originals.

Based on the replacement role, given that they couldn't die until round two, they might have tried to actively push for the town since they had what amounted to invulnerability until replacing, and then aimed to take a town sided power role for themselves.

In this case, they might have assumed that Moonray was a town-sided power role, as stated by The Bandit.

    I forgot about this, actually.

    Still thinking.

    January 29, 2014
    Castrael

I mean, why would someone want to use their powers on a Mafia?

The Replacement was a third-party role so picking one side over the other wasn't exactly crucial to them. Sure, they devote themselves to the cause of whichever team they join but since they have no way of knowing who is what role, they could have either 1) attempted to join the team with more of a chance to win in their mind (and possibly failed) or 2) attempted to steal a power role from someone (a success of sorts in this case).

    January 29, 2014

Night 1 (that I agree on):

    Said by Apollo:

Feral - Inactive. Last game he was town-sided, he had a ton to contribute. Last game he was Mafia, he was very silent/inactive for the first few day rounds.

Count Dooku - Inactive until just now. Did this as the Survivor and Mafia, understandable fear of being killed off early but.. for example, was very active when Sensor a few games back and it just raises a few flags.

    ---

The Bandit: I don't think Dooku would ever do that as mafia. Maybe I'm being overly simplistic, but it would just be such a huge leap from the way he played when we were on the same team. It's totally possible, but I'm not ready to go there yet.

And I get 0 vibes from Moonray. Like, not even one. He could be that good, I don't know, but I'm not going to cast a vote for someone unless I have some suspicion of him, even if it is just a gut feeling.

I'll post these thoughts for now, but those are the people I have high suspicions right now; still not sure about Feral though.

Guys, I apologize for my inactivity. The last week has been incredibly rough on me, as I have been batteling my depression. Ask any mod about my recent actions. I would not have blamed any of you for offing me last round. My comment about sleeping was meant to be witty, but looks suspicious even from my eyes. I'm feeling OK for the moment, and this last night round has relit my interest a bit.

I read through the last day round. There was a 5-5 tie vote for me and Cas when Moon voted for Hindy as a throwaway to seperate them. I doubt starting a banwagon was his intent, but once it started, he couldn't very well stop it without giving himself away. Instead, he excaberated it intending to use it to strengthen his own defense.

I doubt Cas is Mafia at this point.

I'm pretty sure Mafia would have killed Shadow by now if a Power Role had been claimed... right? Or, am I wrong?

    January 29, 2014
    Castrael

Bad Break Billy is a power role in the same sense that the Outsider is a power role. That role's existence is more beneficial to the mafia than it is to the town due to the misdirection that it introduces.

    Yes, Shadow...and?

    January 29, 2014

    January 29, 2014
    Shadowwalked

Obviously, there never was any gut feeling.

    January 29, 2014

    January 29, 2014
    Castrael

    Yoshi one of them?

    Yar.

Why is your vote for Yoshi?

I don't have any hard evidence so I'm sorry to disappoint, it's just the general vibe I've gotten from the things he has said, the way he has conducted himself, and the way he has interacted with others. I could research his previous game to get a better read on his usual behavior but even without having done that, he is sorta the person that I have an insatiable bloodlust for this game, as I am wont to do with at least one person per game.

Okay, what is with all the cats on this train? Is the conductor the Crazy Old Cat Lady or something?

No, but seriously, suspicious or not, Cas has brought up some damned good points, especially this one:

Count Dooku - Inactive until just now. Did this as the Survivor and Mafia, understandable fear of being killed off early but.. for example, was very active when Sensor a few games back and it just raises a few flags.

Although, it is entirely possible he just lost interest because of the restarts (especially after losing the Serial Killer role), but still...

    Black Yoshi

Every game I've ever played with Black Yoshi I thought he was mafia. I've never been right.

@Cas: I am looking more closely at Dooku now, and I was obviously wrong about Redack, but I also was the catalyst for swinging the vote back from Feral when he was so close to death. Definitely not something that would make sense as a mafia player.

Every game I've ever played with Black Yoshi I thought he was mafia. I've never been right.

Means nothing now and also you were wrong about Redack.

Ironically, every game Black Yoshi has played with me, he thought I was mafia and I never was. I do believe it's time for one of these streaks to come to its end.

Apollo is a darn good player. When she isn't Mafia, the Mafia have a lot to fear. Speed is another one. Although he was joking around for the last couple rounds. It was just our dumb luck that Apollo was one of the Lovers and so we lost 2 players instead of one.

As for Moonray. It's always suspicious when he lives past the first few Night round. If things were different and the Replacement hadn't killed him then I would start wondering why the Mafia hadn't killed him. Hindenburg or not.

IDK what to think. My feeling about Hindenburg was off (obviously). Man he seems to get Mafia quite a bit.

I need to go back and re-read the last day rounds.

The more I think about it now, the more suspicious Dooku becomes in my eyes. Restarts or not, his play pattern follows that of his last few games as Mafia almost exactly, at least as far as I read into them when I had a break from teaching. So do Feral's, but at least he had a valid explanation. Therefore...

You are playing more like your normal self now Speed. I'm less suspicious of you.

I remember when Dooku was Sensor. he came up with a plan and tried to organize the Town. He's been quiet this game and he votes for people and says he has "reasons" but doesn't give any. And he was fairly quiet the first few rounds we were Mafia together. I'll wait and see if he becomes more active.

I've never played a game with Black Yoshi so I don't know how he plays. (Stupid glitch won't let me go back to previous games.)

But why would I speak up in his defense ???

Dooku is usually quiet when he's Townie too.
    Cas

Well, by killing Dooku or Black Yoshi, it should help narrow down who is Mafia.

Black Yoshi is building a case against Dooku. And before this he was trying to get something going against Cas. So if we find out what role he is, it may help determine which side they are on.

Granted Dooku was also voting for Cas with unspecified reasons. (I haven't played Mafia long, but sometimes I think people view Cas as an easy target.)

I abstained from voting last time so I'm going to throw my hat in this time.

    January 29, 2014
    Lady Flare

Granted Dooku was also voting for Cas with unspecified reasons. (I haven't played Mafia long, but sometimes I think people view Cas as an easy target.)

Me and Castrael have a longstanding tradition of trying to get each other killed in these games. She voted for me, it was natural for me to vote for her.

As others have suggested (convenient for me to have an excuse, I know), I'm simply not that interested in this game. Not fair to be like that, but I was really looking forward to playing Serial Killer (original game 24). I managed to hold onto the role for the first restart (24.1), but come the second restart I ended up as a townie. So yeah, kinda upsetting to go from such a cool role to nothing.

If you'd like to lynch me to eliminate a generally inactive user, and one who could be flying under the radar under the guise of being (very) disgruntled over the restart, that's cool.

But hopefully the way Black Yoshi keeps trying to build a case against anyone slightly suspicious is remembered when I'm gone. I've paid very little attention this game, but I'd be gunning for Yoshi in the town's place.

As far as current leads go, this is probably the best one to pursue:

Black Yoshi is building a case against Dooku. And before this he was trying to get something going against Cas. So if we find out what role he is, it may help determine which side they are on.

So let's go with this for now.

    Shadowwalked

I'd join the bandwagon myself, but it wouldn't feel right since I haven't had much of a chance to thoroughly read everything that everyone has posted. I'll see if I can get myself caught up... there are still like 35-ish hours left in the round or something like that.

Black Yoshi is on the higher end of my suspect list, but I'm unsure how much of that is simply because I'm unfamiliar with the way he plays the game.

Bubba checking in. The ice storm in the southeast has had me stranded at my university until yesterday evening. Just recently woke up from the best sleep of my life.

Seeing as I'm just getting here, I'm going to start with what I was thinking about right before I became an ice cube. The votes for Hindeburg from the last round strikes me as odd. Redack votes for Hindenburg and then a wave of players come out and vote for him. Redack's motive here really needs to be questioned. The two options here is that it was either a harmless throwaway vote to make him look innocent in the event of a Hindy death down the line, or he wanted a mafia member dead so he had his fellow mafia members to follow with their own votes for Hindy. If it's the former, then he has got to be kicking himself right now for making a terribly unlucky decision. Redack carries a lot of weight in this game and as a result his actions may result in more followers than he would have hoped for. If it is the latter, then I think anyone else who voted for Hindenburg should be looked at as possible suspects. Sure, it's a crazy idea (especially when Hindy never even used his Janitor power), but the pay off could be exponential.

    January 30, 2014
    Bubba

Yeah, the Replacement may have done a disservice to the Mafia by outing Redack. I guess we'll find out in subsequent rounds, won't we?

I'm just going to vote for Black Yoshi now, but in response to your suggestion, Bubba - I could see it going either way. Maybe the Mafia all decided to pitch in and get rid of a member they didn't want... or maybe you're taking advantage of an opportunity to use reasonable-sounding logic to LEAD US ALL ASTRAY. (duck)

    Or not. Who knows.

    January 30, 2014
    Jo Nathan

Well, I know I'm innocent. And Apollo is innocent. And I'm fairly certain Castrael is innocent. And we all followed Redack's vote like 5 minutes after he cast it.

If you look at the context of Hidenburg's lynch, it's pretty easy to see why we all voted for him. There were a lot of votes for two people that we all felt were innocent, no votes for anyone else, and like an hour left in the round. I tried to start a new vote for PN, and no one was interested, so when someone else offers a new target it makes sense for me (and people who feel PN was innocent) to go after him. Even if you feel that Hidenburg wasn't more likely to be mafia than anyone else in that scenario, it would still make sense to vote for him versus Feral/Cas.

    The Bandit

I was waiting to see who would vote for Black Yoshi and when before casting my vote, but his death is pretty much cast in stone at this point and I don't think any useful info can be gained from future votes.

    NOBODY CHANGE VOTES

If the ballot forger targeted anyone who's voted for Black Yoshi, we can confirm it if the round doesn't end.

    January 30, 2014

I guess it won't work if the ballot forger forged the vote to be Black Yoshi, and I don't know how useful the information will be if we get any, but I figure it's worth a shot.

It's okay, man. You win some, you lose some. My ass has been on the chopping block since the round started, what with that Black Yoshi quip in the OP. I'll just die with dignity.

And anyway, that's eight votes for me, so round should be over, right?

    January 30, 2014
    Black Yoshi

...and I might as well admit that I'm the Mafia Investigator since that's pretty much it for me. Quite frankly, I didn't really care for my Mafia team; with Redack gone, all hell's broken loose in the Mafia thread and Shadowwalked is the one who started it. Ever since the Replacement came along Shadow's been trying to get him to go along with his master plan, which both myself and the Replacement thought was complete idiocy...and he even said in our thread that the only reason he claimed Bad Break Billy was that he knew the role was pointless and he wanted to appear innocent.

    January 30, 2014
    Black Yoshi

Yeah, I see where you're coming from Bubba. I always suspect the mafia grouping together for a lynch even though it's usually pretty unlikely (I was very suspicious of all those that voted for Cas on Day1). But the fact that Apollo was innocent should show that it is possible for Cas and I to show up and cast a vote shortly after Redack posted. You also have to assume that the other two mafia members would be totally OK with that plan and, honestly, I don't think many would. Mafia is still a game about numbers, and sacrificing a precious member might seem like a good idea, but in reality it's pretty terrible, and I think the other two members would argue that.

I would definitely encourage more people to vote for Black Yoshi. If he winds up innocent, I would strongly encourage a Dooku vote tomorrow.

Quite frankly, I didn't really care for my Mafia team; with Redack gone, all hell's broken loose in the Mafia thread and Shadowwalked is the one who started it.

I think it should be fairly obvious that given the ratio will soon be 2-9 and that the nurse is dead, trying to ruin the game by revealing an ally wouldn't make much sense since the mafia still have a fair chance if they play well.

Furthermore, the fact that no one has counter-claimed Bad Break Billy, which I claimed very early on, speaks more to my innocence. If I was an imposter, the 'real' Bad Break Billy could speak up and effectively lead to only a single mafia left.

However, that won't happen, since it'd basically be another mafia outing himself and leading to their eventual lynch.

So, who should we start looking at for the next round? At this point, I feel like the people who are most suspicious are the ones who haven't been speaking much. This round, everyone seemed to be on the ball. I feel fairly confident that everyone who voted before me is likely innocent. The only one that could swing the other way is Speed. I don't think he's guilty anymore, but he has been after Yoshi from the beginning, so continuing that pursuit as a mafia member wouldn't be a stretch. Very unlikely, but he's slightly less innocent than the other three.

I imagine the mafia would feel a little awkward after the Hidenburg lynch, so I don't think they would pile on votes for Yoshi that early willingly. So, in my opinion, that pushes Cas, Lady Flare, and Jo Nathan to the very back burner. Dooku can also be added to that list, although he didn't cast a vote.

I definitely don't believe Yoshi for a second. Maybe if weid was in the game I would consider that he might be the Bad Break Billy, but all the players in the game would come forward if someone claimed their role. There's a lot of other reasons but I won't bother. I'm sure we all agree on this.

That leaves (if I'm not mistaken) chiefsonny, Pirate Ninja, Bubba, and Feral. Feral is off my list for now because of all the shit I said yesterday.

Thoughts? Am I totally wrong on this?

Well, you're wrong about me being mafia at least. That aside, I don't see much to disagree with.

chief and Bubba have been on the suspicious end of my personal spectrum as well. Feral's reaction (or lack thereof) to the Day 2 vote made him look less guilty to me.

    Night 3

    Monday, February 10th
    7:45pm

The passengers were left at a disadvantage. Not only was someone killed the previous night, but two people had died, and one went missing. The passengers once again had planned on doing what they did the day before: hold a vote, and kill the person who has the majority vote.

One name stood out in the town's pre-vote discussions: Black Yoshi. There was nothing he could do. The passengers had written their votes and the slips of paper were unfolded and read:

    Black Yoshi

    Count Dooku

    Black Yoshi

    Black Yoshi

    ...

And the votes piled on. Frustrated, Black Yoshi admitted defeat. He quickly grabbed a cyanide pill from his coat pocket and threw it in his mouth. It wasn't long before Black Yoshi, the Mafia Investigator had died.

Entering in the post ID for the "main" thread makes it so that site users who are not playing are not able to post in that thread; otherwise, they are able to post in any non-role-related thread that is not locked.

So that's why the dead are able to post. It's also why weid man was able to post in Feral's game during the night round, even though he wasn't playing.

Making a quick list now that Black Yoshi is dead:

Most suspicious of but am likely wrong because I was actually right about someone for once which means the next 20 people I suspect will be townies:

    Bubba
    chiefsonny

Would consider to be suspicious in the event that the people I consider "most suspicious" are not guilty

    The Bandit
    Count Dooku

Not really suspicious of at all unless they formally introduce themselves as mafia at some point in the coming rounds

For the past few games, it seems like the night rounds have always gone the full 24 hours even if every power role has been active. I don't read into it anymore because I think it's just a common strategy to let it play out the full 24.
