Okay, so, I have written up a document for the roles and such, and I want the game to be a bit challenging and also fun!

Mafia Thread

Mafia Investigator: “Hello, ____! You are the Mafia Investigator! You will be able to select one person each night and learn that person’s role.

Thug: “Hello, ____!” You are the Thug! When a Mafia member dies at night, you will die in their place. Will you be the hero and sacrifice yourself for a Mafia member during the day round? Possible points will be earned!

Executioner: “Hello, ____!” You are the Executioner. You will be able to kill any player that reaches 1/3 of its votes during the day round. However, one vote must come from a non-mafia member in order to make it work.

Mafiaso: “Hello, _____!” You’re the lonely Mafiaso and you get to kill someone each night.

Good luck, Mafia!

Insane Dreamer Thread: “Hello, _____!” You are the Insane Dreamer. When you fall asleep, you may only be able to dream of innocents rather than two innocents and a guilty. This can be cured by a Psychiatrist. Good luck!

Lawyer Thread: “Hello, _____!” You are the Lawyer. You will be able to defend a player each night. Choose wisely and good luck!

Psychiatrist Thread: “Hello, ____!” You are the Psychiatrist. Each night, you’ll be able to cure roles of insanity during the night. Choose wisely and good luck!

Governor Thread: “Hello, ____!” You are the Governor. You will be able to choose one Mafia role each night. You will be able to see the most recent post made in the Mafia thread. Good luck!

I'd like to put in the Serial Killer, but I want your opinion first. {:D}

Alright. So that Mafia mix is pretty decent--the Investigator is one of the more powerful Mafia roles, but the Thug and Executioner are pretty weak so that balances out okay. We'll obviously have to adjust the number of Mafia based on the number of players who show up--it's hard to be completely sure on a balance until sign-ups are closing.

The Lawyer, Psychiatrist, and Governor are all pretty weak Town roles...I'm not sure I'm understanding the Insane Dreamer correctly--does it dream of three innocent players a night until it's cured? If so, that is an insanely overpowered role that I would never even try to cure as the Psychiatrist, since getting three innocent verdicts each night is incredible. That role will need to be changed or removed. I'm also not completely sure about including both the Lawyer and the Governor, since they do pretty similar things.

I love the Serial Killer and it could be a lot of fun. We'll need a pretty big field to include it, though, so we'll have to wait to see how sign-ups go before deciding on that.

Yes.

When it's cured, they'll be able to dream 2 innocents and one guilty. From what I read... Or, we can have it as a Dreamer and change the Psychiatrist into something more powerful.

Same with Governor and Lawyer.

    I was thinking of doing Amnesiac, but that's a third party role. We'd have to get rid of the Serial Killer because the Amesiac is a bit powerful.

    The Gunsmith might be an interesting role, and I'd be down to try them out...probably only works out in a larger game, though. I don't even know what to think about the Admirer...seems like it would be hard to balance? And what's the Amnesiac?

    Yeah, I can be about as involved as you need me to be, Cas. I'm here to help. ^_^

    I'm not sure I like the Amnesiac. Roles like that one and the Ghoul make the game too difficult to balance IMO--I'd rather stay away from people who can switch alignments because they swing the game around. The Admirer might be a little powerful...we'd for sure have to get rid of the Serial Killer's Nightkill immunity and maybe even their invulnerability to Cop checks. Have to see what the setup is, but it does effectively give the SK a better chance to win the game.

    The gunsmith is possible though? I like the Mafia set up so far.

    For Town: I'm thinking four power roles and the rest are townies. Leaving one of them a third party role: Serial Killer.

    Here's what I'm thinking:

    Mafia: Mafia Investigator, Thug, Executioner, Mafiaso.

    Village: Gunsmith, Cop, Nurse, Vigilante, or Dreamer, Townies

    Third Party: Serial Killer

    I think the Gunsmith, Vigilante AND Serial Killer might be a bit much--that's a lot of killing roles. I'd remove the Vigilante because the Gunsmith means there are already killing players among the Town.

    Okay, so big game and was not expecting this!

    I have a set up and the Random.org link from Apollo. So, I'll be randomizing the names. OMG, I'm SOOOO excited. AAAAAAAAAA.

    Here it is: I think it's well balanced with one of each. Would you agree or no?

    Mafia:
  • Mafia Investigator - Investigator Role
  • Thug - Misc Role?
  • Executioner - Killing Role?
  • Mafiaso's - Killing roles?


    Town:
  • Nurse - Protective Role
  • Gunsmith - Killing Role?
  • Cop - Investigator Role
  • Poltergeist - Can swap two players, switching the effects of any night actions taken on the two players. Immune to roleblocking (Misc)

    Third Party
  • Serial Killer - Killing Role.

    I think we need at least 6 Mafia members, maybe even 7 (because the roles we have are not very powerful). We could also throw in more Town power roles because with that many Townies, a lot of people might not be super into it. I like the idea of adding a Mafia member (probably the Godfather), adding the Prosecutor and Defense Attorney. Maybe take out the Cop (since we've played that role so many times) and add the Watcher and Tracker, then give the Mafia the Ninja? I'm going to go look at the list of roles and see if anything looks interesting...

    Maybe not adding the Prosecutor/Defense Attorney--the Serial Killer's going to have a tough time with this many players, so you may want to throw in an Admirer or two after all. I kinda like the idea of having a Special Club with 2 or 3 members--that could work in a game this big. You may also want to put in more roles with night actions instead of the Governor, just to give the Journalist, Nurse, and maybe the Watcher/Tracker something to look for. The Mafia does seem a little bit underpowered, but the Gunsmith might wind up helping them out so it's hard to say. Probably 6 is a good number.

    We'll need to clarify a few things about the Gunsmith, since it's a new role. Are the guns he gives one-shot, or can they be used over and over (they should probably be one-shot)? Can he give the same person two guns over the game? I think he should be able to, but his role should be Compulsive so he has to give a gun out every night (and if a player hasn't used their gun, they can't use it anymore).

    We'll also have to figure out how powerful to make the Serial Killer. I gave him infinite bulletproof and detection immunity (so Cops/Watchers/Trackers couldn't detect him), but that's probably a little much with the Admirers. Maybe only the first one gets detection immunity? And only a one-shot bulletproof vest between the three of them?

    We're having two Admires? How will that work out? As for the bulletproof vests, I think that would be a lot of fun to watch.

    So, here's the set up I'm thinking then. It's on Word, so whatever roles you want me to edit out, I'll do it.

    The Roles:
    MAFIA
  • Mafia Investigator: Selects one person each night and learns that player’s role
  • Thug: If a Mafia member would die at night, the Thug dies in their place. Can also choose to sacrifice themselves for a Mafia member during the day. Gains +1 point for dying for a Mafia member
  • Executioner: Can choose to kill any player who reaches 1/3 of the votes during the day round. The player(s) will die at the end of the day round, and at least one vote must come from a non-Mafia member
  • Ninja:: Immune to detection by the Watcher or Tracker
  • Godfather: Shows up as Innocent to Cops/other alignment detectors
  • Mafiaso: No special powers other than factional kill

    VILLAGE
  • Governor: Can choose to stop all killings during the night, as well as send the Town public messages via the game Host
  • Nurse: As Doctor, but roleblocks target in addition to protecting them. Cannot self-target
  • Gunsmith: Has the option to give a player a Gun at night. Person who has a gun may shoot and instantly kill someone during the day. There is a 50% chance the shooter's identity may be revealed when shooting.
  • Tracker: Chooses one person to follow each night and learns who that person visits
  • Admirers x2: All Admirers in the setup are evenly distributed to any Killers in the setup. Knows who their Killer is, but Killers don't know who their Admirers are. When a Killer dies, one of his Admirers (chosen at random) becomes a copycat Killer. When that copycat dies, another Admirer of the original Killer becomes a Killer.     THIRD PARTY
  • Serial Killer: Selects one person each night to kill. Immune to night detection, and wins the game as the last player standing.
  • Journalist: Selects one target each night and learns about all the comings and goings at that player’s house. Can write an article to the Town each day, which the Host will post. Gains +1 points for each lynching they influence

    If we plan on doing the Special Club, should we give them a bullet proof vest? If one of them die, that'll take out the entire group. I'm not sure if I'm liking that one myself.

    Paranoid Gun Owner/Granny – Kills anyone who visits them during the night. If a group targets them, only the first to vote for them will be killed. If a killing role targets them, both the killing role and the PGO will die. NO LONGER SUSPENDED

    We also have that we haven't used.

    I'm just throwing out ideas here haha. I would love to see the Paranoid Gun Owner see some use, actually--that can be a fun role! The Spy is kinda lame, though, because the Mafia can play around that pretty easily. There's no need to have the Godfather if we take out the Cop, so maybe put in the Hooker instead? That could be a well-balanced Mafia crew.

    I think the Admirers would be Third-Party roles, since they win with the Serial Killer.

    The Special Club is different from the Lovers--they don't die if another member does. That being said, they might not work out super-well in this format since we have a lot of roles that are dependent on Night actions and they don't have any. Maybe include the Paranoid Gun Owner and one other Town role with a visiting action (the Watcher?) instead. Give me a second and I'll see if I can come up with something. Setup's looking pretty good so far though!

    Actually, the Silencer might be better than the Hooker. Let's see...

    6 Mafia (Ninja, Silencer, Investigator, Thug, Executioner, Mafioso)
    4 Third Party (Journalist, Serial Killer, Admirer x2)
    14 Town (Nurse, Governor, Gunsmith, Watcher, Tracker, Paranoid Gun Owner, 8 Townies)

    How does that look to you? As for explanations of the roles, I'd go with this:

    Gunsmith: Gives a gun to a player of their choice each night. These guns are one-shot and may be used during the day to kill a player instantly; however, the player who used the gun has a 50% chance of having their identity revealed to the Town. The Gunsmith is compulsive (they must use their power each night) as they do have a business to run, but they can't give their gun to someone who already has an unused one and they cannot select themselves.

    Admirer: Knows which player is the Serial Killer, though the Killer does not know who their admirers are (nor do the admirers know each other). They have no special powers of their own, but once the original Serial Killer dies, one of them will be randomly chosen to become the new Killer (and the third after that). Admirers would show up as innocent to a Cop, but once they become Serial Killers themselves they aren't skilled enough to avoid detection, so unlike the normal SK they become vulnerable to Cops, Watchers, Trackers, and the like. Admirers win the game when they and the Serial Killer outnumber the Town + Mafia.

    I think the Serial Killer should have a one-shot bulletproof vest that protects them against a Mafia, Paranoid Gun Owner, or Gunsmith kill once and then is used up. How does that sound to you?

    Hey Cas, just a few reminders. The Mafia all go in one thread (set all of the players as 'Mafia') and you'll have to post in the main Mafia thread which one is which. Each Admirer should have their own thread (assign one as Admirer 1 and the other as Admirer 2). Make the Mafia thread last so it goes on top (we can cement the main thread). And remember to change the Thread id of main post in the Mafia panel to match the main thread--it'll be the numbers at the end of the URL. Good luck, and be careful so we can hopefully avoid restarts! :)

    You mean for the Watcher/Tracker/Journalist? Yeah, you'd tell them if they just didn't visit anyone, and you'd give names if they did visit.

    As for the chiefsonny thing...doesn't make any sense, really, and I'm not sure how to fix it. Try messaging Xhin?

    Okay. Also, one more thing: you'll notice that I made a 'Silenced' role. You can just reassign that to whoever the Silencer chooses each round, and it'll prevent them from posting in the main thread. :)
