game 34 night 3 going quietly

Posted March 1, 2015 by hezekiah

Day 3

It must be something in the water. Even though the bad guys all ostensibly wanted the same thing, they sure weren't acting like it. The town comes across the body of Mafioso Speed Bike Pro, having been drowned in the log flume's runoff area.

Okay, now the mafia effectively can't kill each other. Let's say the mafia are: Frustro, Lady Flare, and Helius.

  • Helius knows who Lady Flare is.
  • Lady Flare knows who Frustro is.
  • Frusto knows who Helius is.

This is the "circle of trust". Helius might vote for Frustro, but Frustro and Lady Flare would not. This is true for any mafia member they might vote for. It's also true regardless of which direction the circle goes in.

In other news.. how does the VIP strategy look now?

I say it's definitely worth a go. At this point, there's no way we could lose if we went for it.

OOOooohhh okay yeah I getcha there now. But then what's to stop one Mafia member from claiming to be VIP too, and then we have the whole crisis of the Distracted Doctor and Martyr not knowing which one to protect, while the Mafia literally cannot vote to kill the Mafia disguised as VIP?

    oh ok

I like a VIP claim here, I think. Between the Martyr and the Doctor, they should survive long enough to get the Mafia out--the Doctor just has to remember not to protect the VIP on the first night so that the Martyr can do their job and they can get them the second night. I also think we can hedge against the possibility of a falseclaim by a Mafia member in two ways.

    1. The real VIP should NOT counterclaim if there's a wrong claim. We have plenty of time to verify a false VIP claim, so we'll figure out if they're lying by the end of the first day round they claim (granted, they could throw one of their own under the bus, but that is not a winning strategy in the long term with this setup as they'll eventually have to get rid of an innocent and out themselves). There's no reason for us to have two VIP claims at once if we're going to play this correctly since a falseclaim is easy to figure out.

    2. The Martyr knows who the real VIP is, so they could theoretically out a falseclaim. I prefer the above strategy to this one, just because this one will require us trusting the Martyr claim over the VIP claim and could lead to the Martyr's death (so we'd have one less protection effect for our VIP), but it is an option and something to keep in mind.

Aaahah, that sounds like a sound strategy. And with only three Mafia left, the only possible wrenches in the works I can see rely solely upon incredibly bad luck. If anyone realizes any major flaws in this plan, go ahead and speak up; I got nothin'.

as long as the necessary parties are cooperative, it sounds like a good plan to me

Now we just need to wait for the VIP. Also long as he is active, this should be a easy win for the town.

    ...

Ahem, I said we just need the VIP to NOT BE INACTIVE. (crs)

I'm not inactive. I was just waiting for input from everyone before I said anything. Well, for the record I thought the idea was kind of risky considering we're in a really good position but I don't want to risk any power roles dying as well as myself so...looks like I have no choice. That and mostly everyone seems sure about doing this and I don't want to let anyone down so...

Other two are Ghowilo and CtR Black.

Can the game be ended now? There's really no way for the mafia to win if the Town's power roles are even half way paying attention, and I don't think we want to win because the Doctor or someone has IRL issues and can't show up to protect the VIP.

There's really zero reason to stretch this out for another week.

As the martyr, I can confirm. As if it wasn't obvious enough already.

I figure since there's no difference between the mafia killing me, and killing evilguy at this point, I may as well.

    Night 3

Turns out the fancy new ride wasn't quite as thrilling as the designers hoped. Mafioso The Bandit resolved to kill himself by riding it while not buckled in, intending to be thrown out of the train and fall to his death. Problem is, the ride was too safe. So instead he sat there until he died of dehydration, just a few hours short of the record for longest time riding a roller coaster.
