Posted January 14, 2016 by hezekiah

Vandy and Helius were the mafia, Ghowilo their traitor. Sorry for not quite getting it balanced properly :-/

Points coming when I'm not on my phone.

Yeah I felt the odds were in our favor here. Nothing against you though hezekiah. Trial and error. It was still entertaining.

btw good play by Growlithe at the end as the traitor. I don't know if you did it intentionally or not, but your vote allowed us to capitalize and seal the game.

I'm just glad y'all were around to do so. {:D}

Wait what I just came here to vote for Ghowlio and the game is over.

Yikes, I was 1 for 3. My game is rusty.

Me so sorry.

I wouldn't feel too bad. Mafia this game seemed synergistic. It was hardly a fair game for the town. :P

In all honesty though, when I do play Mafia, I'm really good at being Mafia... which is a problem because every one assumes that I'm Mafia even when I'm not.

I don't really know that the balance was off this game so much as it's just difficult to balance a game with this many players. Maybe the Town needed one power role to balance out, but the 2 Mafia + 1 Traitor seemed like a fair enough compromise.

Imo, the biggest problem was the lack of town power roles. Yeano's version of this game worked because we were all novice mafia players; by game 40 the mafia know how to hide most effectively.

That said I think it was a necessary step to get people playing again.

Now onto game 41!

I don't really know that the balance was off this game so much as it's just difficult to balance a game with this many players.

The town really had nothing to go off of, information wise. Which was partly my fault, given that the day 1 kill was random so we couldn't really say "Lancer, why did you vote for Ghowilo?". A more traditional setup with a cop and godfather would have gone over better I think.

Any way we can get rid of the Random feature and maybe get rid of "No Vote" too? Then, that way, we can keep "No Kill" and the players names to prevent confusion.

What if we just renamed it to say "I refuse to vote" or something

Sounds good. I just never liked the random voting. It mixes up the tally.

But random voting ends up doing the same thing as normal voting, it just looks different when you do it. I set up that option so that voting for someone for a reason and voting for someone "randomly" wouldn't be ambiguous. People *were* using ~(roll)~ and such to get an RNG going.

I have no problem with the Random Vote staying, Even though I use it very rarely. It does give a player a choice of voting if they have not made up their mind, and sometimes it gets people to talk if their name keeps coming up in the Random Vote.

But No Kill and No Vote get the same results. So they could be combined into one choice. No Vote.

@hezekiah, When will we get the scores?

No kill isn't the same as no vote. If 3 people vote to kill FAW and four people vote "not voting" FAW dies but if four people vote "no kill" it overrides the votes for her and she lives.

Not voting is like saying "oh yeah I'm angry that they're cutting down that forest" whereas no kill is hugging the trees

Make sense. So combine the 2 and make it No Kill.

Why combine the two if they do different things?

I still like having the Not Voting option--it allows people to get on the voting chart for a round without casting an official vote, and it allows people to remove their vote for an option without switching to another option. If it were possible, I think people should have this set as their 'default' vote at the start of every round, if it's possible, just so the voting chart is more useful.

Actively making a "not voting" means you're active and just refuse to do anything yet (or ever) whereas if you don't actually vote you're probably inactive and should be host killed.

I could see that, if people actually used the Not Voting option. Most people, if they don't want to select an option, simply don't vote even if they're active. I think it'd be much more useful if the voting chart actually had everyone's votes in the proper day round (which they don't, if they don't select an option even for one day round).

That's a good point. Very well, we'll make "not voting" the standard option! Should help stream line the tally as well

Kinda waited a while to do this, but here are points finally.

Vandy - 4 (winning; surviving; good play)
white lancer
Ghowlio - 5 (winning; surviving; very good play)
FAW - 1 (surviving)
Count Dooku - 1 (good play)
Jo Nathan
chiefsonny - 2 (surviving; good play)
White Thunder
Helius - 3 (winning; surviving)
