game 42 signups xhin hosting few but innovative roles

Since no one else has taken the initiative and I'm here ask the time now, I'd like to host Mafia Game 42.

I wanted to keep the roles simple and return to this game's roots somewhat but also add a couple interesting mechanics.

So my power role list looks like this:

  • Crooked Cop -- this is actually just a normal cop, except they put in their investigation while they're on duty (day round)

  • Kingpin -- this is a souped-up Godfather. At the start of the night round they find out who the cop has investigated. Once per game they can make the result come back wrong.

  • Enforcer -- a matia-sided role that can beat someone up each night. Someone who's beat up knows that they're beat up. At the end of the next night round they die in their sleep.

  • Security guard -- a town-sided protector role. Each night they can choose someone to accompany. If that person were to get killed or beaten up by the mafia, the lowest-ranking mafia gets beat up instead.

  • Doctor -- can either keep someone from being killed that night or can heal someone who's been beat up so they are all better the next day round.

    Can the Enforcer constantly be used or is it like, a few time thing? Cuz two deaths a night for the mafia seems a little unfair lol Especially if its another 9 people game.

    I think we should experiment with anonymous names this time around so people like chiefsonny, Count Dooku, Moonray, hezekiah, etc don't draw attention just by not dying in the first round. That is the worst thing about the game is that everyone knows everyone so well. That should be taken away to freshen things up.

    Yeah I'm sorry that was a little uncler.. it actually goes like this:

    Night 1 - Enforcer beats up chiefsonny

    Day 2 - chiesonny knows he's beat up. He says "HEY DOCTOR HEAL ME PLEASE"

    Night 2 - At this point the doc can heal chiefsonny back to full health. If he doesn't...

    Day 3 - chiefsonny dies of his wounds

    Also keep in mind that the town essentially has TWO doctors. The security guard is actually even worse because it prevents beat-downs and beats up the mafia.

    I can definitely do something to fix that. I've been meaning to.

    Honestly I'm not a fan of Mafia with so few people. I signed up last game hoping higher numbers would spur more people and it didn't. I'll probably only play if we get at least 12-14 people.

    I should apologize for not being here the last couple of games -- between school, my choir director position and my performance with three local community bands, I haven't had nearly the time to devote to playing this. Hopefully come summer that will change, but for now I'm not even sure I'll have time for the dead thread, leave alone actually playing.

    Nothing wrong with a "simple game" but try to make it interesting and fun so all these people will want to play again.

    And please don't take this wrong, like I'm trying to tell you how to do your job. Just making a suggestion.

    Oh it'll definitely be fun. I tend to make things *too* complicated (see: mafia game 10, Vegas mafia). Restraining myself means it should be about on the high end of fun.

    I am thinking about resurrecting a role from one of my earlier games if the number of players gets high enough.

    This is probably about the right amount of people for this game (17). I'm going to see if I can get some more people to join that don't normally play this weekend though, and try to start the game early next week.
