Posted July 13, 2012 by `Roxas`

With hezekiah's votes, the noose was put around MajorasMask9's neck. Before he let out his last breath, he muttered the word "execute." The last of the Mafia, the executioner, had died.

First!

Now to look through the threads and see what happened with the sensor information...

Shadowwalked

I'm a nameless role. Lol.

July 13, 2012
Helius

was right about Kyon being the Journalist. I get a happy face sticker.

wonder why they killed and hid Chief. Makes no sense to me. He was the thug.

Dragon in the Shadows

I could have sworn I added "Townie" by your name, Helius. {:P}

As far as the mystery behind cheif's death, everybody should be able to see it now.

  • Points will be determined at a later time.

    `Roxas`

We actually targeted Shadow in night one. Red switched Shadow and Roxas, so me, Zanic, and Majora were forced to attack Roxas. Chief, being the Thug, to the bullet in Roxas's place.

We used this to our advantage to make you guys think there was 1 more Guilty then there really was. It worke for awhile.

    July 13, 2012
    Wild Luxray

I was actually just looking at that situation, Luxray... and I don't like it.

There is no reason that chiefsonny's body should have been hidden. Shadowwalked was targeted by both the kill and janitor powers of the Mafia. Redack (Poltergeist) switched both to Roxas, a mafia member. Only the kill should have been redirected to chiefsonny.

    July 13, 2012
    hezekiah

Yeah, Feral just wrapped up that part.

    July 13, 2012
    `Roxas`

Oh, and by the way, here is the answer to the riddle of the mystery vote in day 3. When Majora executed Zanic, he voided not 1, but "2" actions! You all knew that I blatantly voted after Majora acted, but what you did't know is that he acted in time to void CtR's vote change from Zanic to Not Voting. CtR was the mystery 7th vote.

    July 13, 2012
    Wild Luxray

Actually, he said whoever we killed that night was the body we were going to hide.

Still can't believe how close we were to getting rid of the Cop on Night One.

    July 13, 2012
    `Roxas`

Roxas: I realize that chief ate the mafia's bullet for Roxas. He should not have eaten the hide, however.

...why does everybody think I'm grumpy? Maybe because I've got more things to complain about in this game?

    July 13, 2012
    hezekiah

Lancer made several honest mistakes. Zanic should never have died in day 3 because the Governer vetoed all kills that day. Lancer didn't think to check CtR's thread until it was too late.

    July 13, 2012
    Wild Luxray

I can see how that could rub some people the wrong way of believing that the first person to die was on their own side.

    Nobody's said you're grumpy.

    July 13, 2012
    `Roxas`

That is, if they don't lynch Roxas today. Stupid Dragon! - Wild Luxray

And Dragon is starting to get on my nerves.- Zanic

Dragon is frustrating to play against, but what he is doing is called "playing the game". - Wild Luxray

to know you guys were thinking about me.

    Dragon in the Shadows

That doesn't sit right with me, Roxas. The rules for the role specifically state that "the Janitor can select one person," not a "concept" such as whoever it is the mafia kills.

Round 4 was allowed to continue past its true ending point; there were 9 voters for Luxray, but one of them was me (the Double-voter). That extra person whose vote was allowed to count resulted in misleading data, specifically that the Double-voter was not among those who voted for Luxray.

    July 13, 2012
    hezekiah

Wild Luxray, in the mafia thread: "Just don't expect me to stick around when hezy's ghost throws a tantrum in the Dead thread!"

Redack, in the Polgergeist thread: "14. hezekiah - Do not accuse of being grumpy, will likely be grumpy after reading this"

    That's two so far.

    July 13, 2012
    hezekiah

Oh and I am not always whiny when I do not get my way. Most of the time when I seem whiny I am just confused.

Yes I got upset many times when I failed. This time I was

    1. Very bored
    2. More interested into having Skype chats with my JS friends.
    3. Still sore about the JS raid that happened.

So in this case I was more eh tired no worth my time. I still like the crap out of you guys.

    July 13, 2012
    Teddy Son

Either that or Shadow is the luckiest fucker who ever lived.

    Hi sometimes I do stuff

    July 13, 2012
    Shadowwalked

#85 was pretty damn lucky too. He survived attacks by the Arsonest and Lunatic in the same night. Just my bad luck. If the good doctor died that night, Shadow wouldn't have survived the next night, and never would have gotten the chance to out me. Shadow also got lucky because Redack's attempt to cause something bad to happen to him in night 1 backfired big time, and he ended up saving Shadow's life and forcing the Mafia to kill one of our own.

    July 13, 2012
    Wild Luxray

And two last things I think I've got to complain about...
    1) Roxas asked Teddy during Night 4 not to share his Sensor info via messenger.
    2) The Executioner/Sensor interaction. It would seem more logical to me that the town's lynch would take precedence over the executioner's kill, based on the flavor associated with them. That caused a lot of confusion as the game progressed, especially during Day 3. In the past, the Host has made it clear what vote officially ended the round. Wasn't the case that time.

    July 13, 2012
    hezekiah

The "Concept" never took place in my time as host. That will have to be brought up with white lancer upon his return.

Day 4's extension was probably due to a lack of host(s) available at the proper time. As you pointed out in the appeal, Dooku's should have been the last vote to end the round.

And I guess I didn't see those specific posts. /=

Teddy was killed that night, so the Sensor data for Luxray's death shouldn't have been revealed regardless.

Oh man look at me reading that wrong XHIN BEING BACK EDITING.

    July 13, 2012

That mistake with the Governor was pretty bad (well, for the mafia at least).

    MajorasMask9

Teddy was killed that night, so the Sensor data for Luxray's death shouldn't have been revealed regardless.

The trivial way to prevent sensor data from being leaked during the night round would've been to only provide it at the night's end, concurrent with processing of cop, doctor, mafia etc. But that wasn't done, and there's nothing in the rules establishing that it must remain private until the next day round.

    July 13, 2012

    LOL sigh

    July 13, 2012
    Shadowwalked

Night Talk was off. That means no discussing of the game should be going on until the Day Round (except in the case of mafia, lovers, masons, etc). If the Sensor receives information at night, and then tells that information to someone at night, that's night talking. If that were allowed we'd have no reason to lock the threads during the night rounds.

    July 13, 2012
    MajorasMask9

Well we were going off of ambiguous data that we had no way of knowing was ambiguous. Plus, Shadow explained to me on AIM that he knew poptart (who I pegged as Arsonist during day 3) was going to target #85, and both Dragon and myself had done plenty to convince him that we were town-sided. As such, he took a stab in the dark based on a prior suspicion.

    July 13, 2012
    hezekiah

    yay I survived

    enjoyed reading the mafia thread

no complaints against white lancer or other hosts; as first-time hosts (I think), you guys did better than I could have done. Thanks for hosting

    July 13, 2012
    Vandy

BTW, I realized that chief must have been the Thug a fair while before I revealed it at the start of Day 4. It just wouldn't have helped me at all to say it then, and probably would've made me a more enticing mafia target. I still disagree vehemently that his body should have been hidden, based on the rules as written for the Janitor role, but that's another matter entirely.

    July 13, 2012
    hezekiah

    lol Jo Nathan survived

I wish he would have actually played. He would be an interesting person to read

    July 13, 2012
    Vandy

I actually agree with you, hez, looking back through the Mafia thread. Your reasoning didn't occur at the time, though. Would have been REALLY interesting to see how the town would have reacted to the Mafia targeting one of their own on night 1. lol

    July 13, 2012
    Wild Luxray

I don't follow what you mean by my reasoning not occurring...?

Part of the reason I didn't bring up that chief was the Thug earlier was because I still had my plans for how to approach our lynching, and admitting that we'd have worse odds of hitting a mafia blindly may have turned people off from the strategy.

    July 13, 2012
    hezekiah

Lol @ the mafia thinking the journalist was somebody on the staff just because they knew Chief was old.

I mean, everybody knows it, and I just put down 69 because it was a sexual position, jesus christ.

If it makes you feel better I had the Journalist down as either you or Trever just based on the way you wrote :).

Lol @ the mafia thinking the journalist was somebody on the staff just because they knew Chief was old.

didn't know Chief's age until then, so thier logic doesn't really hold true. I just don't give a shit how old some one on GT is.

    July 13, 2012
    Dragon in the Shadows

I'm rather surprised 2 people thought I was the journalist, including Redack. He should know my writing better than that by now. xD

    July 13, 2012
    Noctis Lucis Caelum

    In a game where people will change their writing? {:P}

You and the journalist used similar wording which threw me off, but as you can see on my post I was aware it might just be because the journalist did it first rather than you being the same.

    July 13, 2012
    Redack

    Note that I saw you as a threat off the bat, hez. You and Redack were the first two I brought up of killing Night One, but settled on Shadowwalked at random. {:?}

    July 13, 2012
    `Roxas`

    I knew everything, all along.

    July 13, 2012
    The Bandit

Exactly my point, Roxas. I didn't mention the Thuggishness earlier because it would've heightened the chances of me getting killed. And I didn't want to get killed.

    July 13, 2012
    hezekiah

I meant that it didn't occur to me at the time that the Thug is not suppose to take non-killing actions for the other Mafia, including Janitor sweeps.

    July 13, 2012
    Wild Luxray

    whem can we expect scores?

    July 13, 2012
    Dragon in the Shadows

    Probably when Lancer gets back.

    July 14, 2012
    Wild Luxray

Just got back. I've got work in a bit, but I plan to have a post with apologies, explanations, congratulations, and player points up tonight after I've had a chance to read through the remaining threads. I was hoping to be around when the game ended so that I could get those up before everyone had a chance to get mad and whatnot, but oh well, things don't always go as planned.

    July 15, 2012
    white lancer

Oh, yeah, and is there any reason why the Mafia/Cop/Arsonist/Dead threads are still unreadable?

    July 15, 2012
    white lancer

think it's because there is a new game going on. Everyone I tried said "Error: You are not part of this Mafia rank, so cannot view these posts."

    July 16, 2012
    Dragon in the Shadows

DitS is spot on, it's because Xhin's started his game already.

    July 16, 2012
    hezekiah

I can see all of the threads but those four, though (and substitute Doctor for Arsonist). I guess it's because those are the four roles that we're playing with this game--all the others have reverted to normal threads but apparently these ones never did.

Anyway, working on my wrap-up post now!

    July 16, 2012
    white lancer

There are a number of things I want to address before getting to player scores, so I'll hit them one at a time. If you're only here for the scores, feel free to scroll down. :P

    1. I imagine that everyone's probably seen my obvious big mistake (the one with the Governor) by now, and I want to apologize to everyone for that--I really don't have a good excuse, just a crappy one (that I was hurrying to get the round done), and I'm still kicking myself over that. Fortunately, though, I don't think it's one that really changed the impact, mostly because Zanic had at least three Townies (Vandy, DitS, White Thunder) gunning for him, so I doubt he would have lasted much longer. He also was up against what I'm going to talk about in #2...

    2. I really wanted to include the Sensor because I found it an intriguing role that didn't really get to play before. I had an inkling that it was a powerful role, but I was hoping that the larger group would dilute its power a little...I think I was wrong about that. It's an overpowered role IMO and one of the main reasons the Mafia got dominated so easily this game, and unfortunately I think it threw the balance off. I'd recommend to future hosts not to use the Sensor unless you have a ridiculously powerful Mafia or you do away with one or both of the traditional power roles (Cop/Doctor).

    3. The reason I made the call on the Executioner was to curb the Sensor's power somewhat and to make it so the results could at least be somewhat doubtful. I understand hezy's problem with that call, since that's not how the Executioner is used in the rules, but its interactions with the Sensor were open to interpretation and that's the way I decided. I don't think that it really damaged the Sensor all that much and I figured you guys would be able to overcome this after I made my ruling about it clear early on (which you did). Also, I discussed this particular ruling with Yeano before he left and he agreed that it was an acceptable compromise.

    4. Hezy's complaint about the Janitor is, I think, a little more well-founded since I didn't make an announcement about it and you could definitely make a case that it contradicts the Janitor's role details. I went the way I did because it seemed unfair to have Redack instantly know two members of the Mafia just like that, and I did tell Redack that the Janitor sweep would transfer to the Thug if he switched it to a different Mafia member. I saw the Janitor sweep as connected to the Mafia kill once he locked in his choice, but I understand objections to that.

    5. Hosting is more stressful than I expected, haha. I tend to be a very laid-back person but even I had some moments of stress when I was making rulings and trying to make sure everything went just right. Obviously I hit some rough patches in the game but I tried to make sure everything was as fair as possible and I always made sure to answer questions about roles and interactions when they were put to me. I'm open to criticism, constructive or not, but thanks for being a great Town regardless! ^_^

Player Scores (from highest to lowest):

+6 points (+2 winning team, +1 surviving, +3 great playing)
Shadowwalked (I had you at +2 for playing until I bumped you up for checking Majora in the last night round)

+5 points (+2 winning team, +1 surviving, +2 good playing)

CtR Black (+2 winning team, +1 surviving)
Helius (+2 winning team, +1 surviving)
poptart! (+2 winning team, +1 surviving)

    +2 points
    MajorasMask9 (+2 good playing)
Jo Nathan (+2 winning team, +1 surviving, -1 extreme inactivity)
    Teddy Son (+2 winning team)
    Xhin (+2 winning team)
Zanic (+1 pity point for my stupidity, +1 decent playing)

    +1 points
    `Roxas` (+1 decent strategizing)
    Trever Leingod (+1 decent playing)
chiefsonny (+1 for dying for a fellow Mafia member)
    Kyon (+1 influencing a lynch)
Marvalo (+2 winning team, -1 extreme inactivity)
    Wild Luxray (+1 decent playing)

Gave Zanic a pity point since my blunder put him out of the game. Given the somewhat unbalanced nature of the Sensor as well as that blunder, I thought about giving each Mafia member a pity point, but I decided that would take away from the gameplay of the Town, which I thought was quite stellar as a whole. Also, a special thanks to Luxray, Xhin, hezekiah, chief, etc. for figuring out the hosting situation and to Roxas for hosting while I was away--I don't think I'm allowed to give you any points for that, but I appreciated it!
