game 9 thread 2 day 1 a game of claims

Posted July 16, 2012 by Xhin

Day 1

As the town stumbled out of their houses, rubbing their eyes, they found shrapnel on the street. Clearly, the trickster had struck, but which house did they target, and who wouldn't show up to the town meeting that day?

Dragon in the Shadow, upon seeing the wreckage everywhere, broke down crying and sank to the ground, saying "WHYYY WHY OH GOD WHYYYY IM SO SORRY IM SO SORRY". Someone went forward to comfort him, and nearly got bitten.

Something tells me that Dragon is insane...

July 16, 2012
Wild Luxray

I want to see a few more opinions

July 16, 2012

Yeah, Dragon needs a psychiatrist visit I think... haha xD

July 16, 2012
Noctis Lucis Caelum

Who tried to comfort Dragon? THIS IS VITAL INFORMATION WE NEED.

Also, not voting for Helius just yet. He may want to die just because he can come back as another role.

July 16, 2012
Kyon

Yeah, I jumped into that to fast.

July 16, 2012
Wild Luxray

I'm very tempted to lynch Helius for blatantly lying to us, but that's the thing -- it was almost made too obvious

then again maybe that's what he wanted it to look like

at this point we don't know much of anything, honestly

July 16, 2012
Vandy

we need Black Yoshi to bring in a guilty verdict to test his allegiance

July 16, 2012
Vandy

Oh, man. I can tell this is going to be one of those games where I'll be keeping the page with the new rules open all the time. I have a number of questions about all of this, so let's start here: have the necessary points for winning been upped to 20? Are there more than one of each Townie? If so, are you keeping the number hidden from us intentionally?

I'll look at this some more when I'm not so tired and have time to wrap my mind around some of these new game mechanics. But caution is definitely warranted around killing Helius--if he's a Rogue Townie, he'll automatically become one of the Mafia upon dying...although, I guess we could always kill him to turn him into a Mafioso, then lynch him again to get the points for killing a Mafioso. If the necessary points to win are 20, I'm not sure how the Town is going to get that high--even 10 seems like a high number to reach unless there are large numbers of Rogue/Red Townies since we only get one point for each of them (unless they are the Godfather).

Actually, I do think I'm going to vote for Helius. It's possible he's in the Mafia and the Trickster decided to silence the Cop, so he felt safe claiming Cop (not knowing that the silencing didn't take effect until the next day). Even if he's not Mafia now, I'd suggest lynching him now and then having the Vigilante go after him in the night, since that'd be a guaranteed 1 point for the Town if he's a Rogue Townie.

July 16, 2012
white lancer

why would the points be increased to 20? It said in the first post that first side to 10 points wins

July 16, 2012
Vandy

Underneath the ratio, it shows how many points each faction has (currently 0) out of 20. I'm not sure what else that would be referring to.

July 16, 2012
white lancer

so let's start here: have the necessary points for winning been upped to 20?

That was a typo on my part. Fixed.

Are there more than one of each Townie?

There's one yellow townie and one black townie. I am keeping the number of red/green/rogue townies secretive though, yes.

even 10 seems like a high number to reach unless there are large numbers of Rogue/Red Townies since we only get one point for each of them (unless they are the Godfather).

10 points is possible even if you guys fail to kill the mad scientist (+2 points). As the game progresses, it will become easier to kill mafiosos. Don't forget that you have a Vigilante on your side too, and if they die, a green townie will replace it. Right now, the mafia have an advantage because of their lower numbers and their Trickster role.

Yeah, it does seem like Helius was asking to be lynched, so we should keep an eye on him and get an answer this night, if we didn't get an answer last night. Other than him, no idea at the moment.

July 16, 2012
`Roxas`

Oh boy. Night talk is on. Does that mean I have to check up on this all the time?

July 16, 2012
Zanic

Not necessarily, since no one can vote at night.

July 16, 2012
Xhin
Sky's the limit

Ok. Just letting you guys know, I probably won't be available for night talk

July 16, 2012
Zanic

wasn't crying. I just had something in my eye. And the whole biting thing...I was just hungry. Standard first day no kill vote.

July 16, 2012
Dragon in the Shadows

Actually, we did get an answer last night round -- I investigated Helius and found him Innocent. That said, I'm with Lancer on this one.

July 16, 2012
Black Yoshi

I was going to vote for Helius, but I think I'll hold back. I think it's more likely that he's some sort of role that wants to die rather than the Godfather.

If he was the Godfather I doubt he'd claim cop so early. Why risk it? Especially if he was a role like the Godfather. It would make more sense to claim cop with a more vanilla mafia role, because if you're going for a false cop claim, it doesn't matter whether or not the real cop gets a guilty or innocent result on you since you're trying to discredit them in general.

July 16, 2012
MajorasMask9

Keeping my eye on Helius, but let's see what check Yoshi can get tonight on Helius since it is our only lead, hopefully the Doctor can protect Yoshi.

For every special role the Mafia kills, they get +1 point
For every mafioso the Town kills or lynches, they get +1 point
For every player the Mad Scientist conducts surgery on, they get +2 points.

If the Mafia kill the Mad Scientist, they get +2 points.
If the Mad Scientist is lynched or killed by the Vigilante, the Town gets +2 points.
If the Town lynches a Godfather, they get +2 points. Note that if the Vigiliante kills a Godfather, the Town only gets +1 point.

Looking through the point distribution, The town does not gain/loose points for lynching a fellow townie. I know for a fact that Helius is a Rogue. I say we lynch Helius and force him to become a Mafia, then immidiatly lynch him in the next day, for a quick point. It's an easy point, and better then all this stumbling around and "No Kill" stuff.

July 16, 2012
Wild Luxray

If we are going to vote no kill, then I think we should lynch him.

July 16, 2012
Zanic

Actually, we did get an answer last night round -- I investigated Helius and found him Innocent. That said, I'm with Lancer on this one.

yeah the verdict was innocent, so it's likely that he's not mafia. Not guaranteed but if we're going by odds.. what was the point of checking him if you're going to lynch him no matter the verdict?

July 16, 2012
Vandy

Because he claimed Cop last round so my instinct was to investigate him to see if he was Mafia...which odds say he isn't. Then again, we can't rule out the possibility that he's the (first) Godfather this game.

July 16, 2012
Black Yoshi

Agreed with Luxray. As far as I can tell, there are only two roles that actually want to be killed in this game: Rogue Townies and Black Townies. In both cases, killing them will turn them into an anti-Town role, in which case we can kill them again to get free points. And if he is the Godfather, then we get points automatically. Honestly, I don't see a downside to lynching Helius today.

July 16, 2012
white lancer

Of course, Yoshi could always be insane. But if that's the case, Helius is automatically Insane Mafia, and worth a point to us anyway.

July 16, 2012
Wild Luxray

I have a question about insanity, since I haven't played in a game where there were insane people

if the cop is insane / paranoid, does anyone know? Does the cop know?

July 16, 2012
Vandy

Last time we played with Insane roles, they weren't aware of their condition.

July 16, 2012
white lancer

if the cop is insane / paranoid, does anyone know? Does the cop know?

No one knows. The Psychiatrist can cure them. If an insane or once-insane role dies, I will reveal that they were insane (and what that actually means) in the next mafia thread.

Yoshi should be the Psyc/Social's next target then.

July 16, 2012
Wild Luxray

Just so you all know, by popular demend of the staff(namely Xhin and Redack), I switched back to my old Feral name. I use the Luxray name in Pokemon only.

I wish I had something clever to say or something to add, but to be very honest I'm still so damned confused I'm going to hold off commenting until I can go back and read through all the post again.

July 16, 2012

yeah. I've enough of this game. I'm out. No reveal though. Enjoy your game and let me know when we go back to regular mafia.

July 16, 2012
Dragon in the Shadows

Makes sense to me.

July 16, 2012
White Thunder

Rogue Townies know that they are Rogue Townies. These act the same way as Red Townies, but they have knowledge of being one. Furthermore, if they die, they automatically become normal Mafiosos even if no mafiosos are dead yet.

So it seems like Helius is a rogue trying to become a mafia. Wouldn't killing him be giving him what he wants + another mafia?

July 16, 2012

So it seems like Helius is a rogue trying to become a mafia. Wouldn't killing him be giving him what he wants + another mafia?

He's very likely either rogue or black townie, and either way he becomes someone we can take down and earn points for.

I say gun for him.

July 16, 2012
Noctis Lucis Caelum

But we wouldn't be advancing town goals, we would just be adding and taking a number from the mafia

July 16, 2012
#85

Town goals are to get points, ultimately, and we'd be doing that if Helius is indeed a Rogue Townie. If he's a Black Townie, that's even better because we get +2 points for the Mad Scientist.

Also, I suggest that if we lynch Helius, the Vigilante target him tonight as well. That way, on the off chance that he's the Black Townie, we'll get the points for killing the Mad Scientist (otherwise the Mafia could target him and get the points instead).

July 16, 2012
white lancer

i think due to his behavior he's either rogue or black, so

July 16, 2012
CtR Black

Of course, you may be killing an important town role. Just saying...

In fact, you should lynch me. It's what I want for myself.

July 16, 2012
Helius

Ok

July 16, 2012
MajorasMask9

Alright let's see what happens.

July 17, 2012
Vandy

Well...

July 17, 2012
`Roxas`

By my count there are 5 players who haven't spoken this round and who could be the Trickster's target. I'd suggest that if you haven't been silenced, you continue to stay quiet so that the Trickster isn't sure which one of you was the role it targeted.

July 17, 2012
white lancer

I don't understand why somebody would just want to switch teams like that, especially this early in the game where everybody is dead even.

But since you guys....{:/}

July 17, 2012
Kyon

Good enough for me.

July 17, 2012
Zanic

Wait... Wouldn't the Trickster want to target the Cop throughout the game? This has me thinking that both Black Yoshi and Helius are guilty...

July 17, 2012
`Roxas`

Round is over as soon as Xhin gets around to ending it. Kyon's was the deciding vote, so Zanic's doesn't count, in case anybody is keeping track.

July 17, 2012
Feral

Awww.

July 17, 2012
Zanic

Xhin's pretty late, haha.

July 18, 2012
Noctis Lucis Caelum

Expected it, looks like this game will go even slower now.

July 18, 2012
Kyon

Well, this game just came to a dead stop...

July 18, 2012
Feral

Yea, this is going to be a interest killer. If he knew he couldn't check in everyday, he should have appointed a co-host.
