game ix thread 1 night 1 the town gets a bedtime story

Day 1

After the Town was destroyed by upset townies and mafiosos alike, it spent several weeks undergoing reconstruction. What remained of The Clock Tower with all of the points listed was ceremoniously burned, melted, and buried forever. Former Special Roles peacefully polluted the Town Lake with their tools and weapons.

The residents of the town didn't hold hands and sing Kumbayah forever, though. New skills were developed, new alliances were formed, and people moved in and out of the town. Soon, a new mafia-like group began their plans to take over the newly-built town...

A fine group of upstanding gentlemen! Who would have thought that evil mafia members could be lurking within them?

Mafia-Town Ratio: 5-13
Mafia Roles: Godfather, Silencer, Executioner, Janitor, Mafioso
Town Roles: Townie, Double-Voter, Cop, Doctor, Sniper, Governor, Fisherman, Gambler, Martyr, Spy

An interesting group of professions here. Let's look at the new ones.

Sniper -- The Sniper is a Vigilante with some issues. Due to the distance between his gun and his target, he has a 50% chance of killing someone random as well. He cannot kill himself in this way, however.

Fisherman -- Every night round, the Fisherman attempts to fish out an item in the Town Lake. There are (6) items in total, each that has a low probability of being caught. After it is caught, they can use it at any time, but cannot fish for that item again. If you're interested, I basically just copy and pasted the list from here:

Gambler -- The Gambler wins with the town, but has acquired a gambling addiction. Once per night round, they can vote on who they think the mafia will kill. If they vote successfully, they will receive +1 player point.

Martyr -- The Martyr is similar to a Doctor, in that they can attempt to save one person per night. However, if they successfully save someone from being murdered, they will die in their place.

Spy -- The Spy is a crafty little thief that will break into the Mafia HQ every night. They will choose one mafia role and be able to see a copy of the last post that mafia role made in the mafia thread. They will not know who made the post, and all mafia names or nicknames will be filtered out.

Notes

  • Like in previous mafia games, Dead Talk and Night talk are OFF.

  • As the Janitor is in play, the Mafia-Town ratio will not be updated as the game progresses.

    Anyway, it is now Day 1. 72 Hours or 11 votes for the same option. Executioner kill will happen if anyone receives 6 votes.

    Huh...we haven't started on Day 1 since the first couple of Mafia games.

    Anyhoo, holding off on voting for now to see what develops. After that last game, I'm hesitant to vote too early on -- after all, anything can happen.

    Gambler isn't worth anything to the town altogether.

    Not sure what to make of the fisherman.

    The Martyr will be useful, asuming they are willing to die for a good cause.

    The Sniper is a very dangerous role. Way to good a chance that an important town role could accidentally take the bullet. The Sniper should not act unless they ABSOLUTLY have to.

    The Spy, though, is the potential game changer here. A peak at the right reply could hurt the Mafia in one shot.

    The Spy, if smart, should know what to do.

    Game suggestion: maybe the Martyr gets +1 if they die in someone's place? That gives them motivation to act, which makes it more fun after all.

    The Fisherman's list:

    Your role is: Fisherman Win with: town

    The fisherman is a unique role (i.e. non-standard). Every night you may "fish" for a particular item. Some items are easier to fish for than others. If you "catch" an item, you may use it at any time (day or night) by PMing me, but it is only good for one use. Items that can will work for one day and one night. You may only "catch" one of each type of item for the duration of the game.

    The following items are fishable. The number of the percent chance you have of catching each item.

    * 10% Syringes (Doctor)
    * 15% Magnifying Glasses (Cop)
    * 20% Guns (Vigilante)
    * 20% Bulletproof Vests (persistent [does not get used up], prevents one shot, is only used on you)
    * 25% GPS Locators (Tracker)
    * 25% Binoculars (Watcher)

    To fish at night, simply PM me with the following:

    I will fish for [item]

    You may fish on night 0 by pming me with your fish item. (No standard role may use their power on night 0)


    Somebody want to explain what those items do?

    Oh wait, I get it. If the Fisherman catches the item, he get's to use the corresponding role's action one time.

    I think, for the purpose of our game, since we don't have the Tracker or Watcher roles, that Tracker should be Spy and Watcher should be Sniper.

    And the Vest should only be usable once, otherwise the Fisherman becomes invincible. Perhaps make it recatchable...

    Personally I think Xhin shouldn't have revealed the list to everyone. It should've been kept for only the fisherman to know, adds a bit of mystery to the game and all that.

    Very interesting set of new roles once again... though it does seem the Sniper role is a bit too risky to use o_O I think it'd make more sense to just have a chance of missing their target instead of hitting someone else. If you hit someone else entirely you're a horrible sniper.

    And the Vest should only be usable once, otherwise the Fisherman becomes invincible. Perhaps make it recatchable...

    The item details seems to contradict itself. It says it is "persistent" yet it only prevents one shot...

    It means it stays until you're shot at. The other items get used up when you use their action (presumably on the same night or the night after?) but the vest remains until you're shot at (then it gets used up).

    There are now 10 votes to No Kill and 7 players who have not voted.

    And we are only 16 hours into the game. Seems a little unfair to end a round that soon. Some of these people may have jobs. So I will not cast the 11th vote.

    Also, before someone try's to claim they are my role. I have decided to go ahead and reveal.

    That reminds me... Xhin, what's the method we're using this game as far as what Not Voting counts for? Is it simply retracting your vote, or is it abstaining from voting?

    Not Voting should just mean retracting your vote. Universally, in every game.

    "Abstaining from voting" just sounds like a cop out, and isn't even an option (as far as I know) in any other mafia game outside of gtx0. I don't even see how an option like that would benefit the town regardless.

    Just stating this because I've seen it brought up in multiple games due to the ambiguity of the phrase "Not Voting," and honestly this should be clarified in the rules document or something.

    Night 1

    The Town decided to kill no one that day. They left the town hall and went back to their respective houses, hopefully to get some sleep and hopefully to not die in the night.

    24 hours or after all special roles have confirmed their night actions.
