Basically, I seek to achieve two things with GTX0's design:
It needs to look good on a large scale.
It needs to be very personalized
Note the word "personalized" -- this implies a kind of organic customization. Instead of being able to change *everything* you can change groups of things that make sense together. If you go to pick a pair of shoes, you might pick hiking or athletic or dress shoes, not some crazy hybrid of custom tongues, laces, and heels.
Personalization implies -- there are a variety of hiking boots available. Perhaps the customization runs deeper than with most shoe stores and you can find even a whole palette that suits you.
This is what I aim to achieve with GTX0's design. How I plan to do this (and the MyCard feature has really hammered this out):
Have a good selection of well-designed templates (Add more as needed / inspiration strikes)
Allow you to customize pieces of them
Maybe adjust some settings depending on what it is -- adding a little more personalization to a design.
For things that are pretty variable, get them to flow according to set rules. A good example: The text here:
This is the design philosophy behind GTX0 as a whole, but here are some more specific areas where this will happen:
