  • Tavern -- taverns are ubiquitous across the world. They offer drink, cooked food, sometimes music and generally sets of various wooden/etc games. Beds may be available on another floor for travelers and those on vacation.

  • Market -- markets offer food and drink for purchase. Smaller ones will solely carry long-term staples like salted fish, tubers and dried fruit, while better ones will offer fresh variants as well cooled by imported Ice. There isn't any local food production, so fresh food is a lot rarer and solely found in larger cities. Market workers will go out into the world and source the goods as they are needed, rather than farmers bringing them goods.

  • Solar Church -- the solar religion is pretty ubiquitous so every single town has one of these for general worship, a form of tithing to increase favor with the solar deity and another place to gather with members of the community in other guilds. They're also where executions take place -- the law system in the world is pretty strict like that, particularly if you're Guildless, and it's felt that being sacrificed to the Solar Deity redeems one's misdeeds.

Solar Churches also offer Sunstones and the ability to charge old ones. Charged sunstones can be traded for the pebbles of dead ones, which is the main currency of the world.

  • Guildless Tower -- the Guildless are housed here in cramped conditions. Guildless are hired by Guilds for various menial tasks and paid very little -- just enough for basic sustenance. Guildless self-manage and will typically pool their resources. There is however a lot of crime and the punishment is just solar execution. Being Guildless and living anywhere else in town is a death sentence. Outside of beds in taverns if they can somehow afford that and don't stick around a town for too long. Sleeping outside of town is also an option, so long as you don't stay somewhere permanently that can be seen.

  • Library -- books are a big industry, particularly fiction ones, and Jade technology makes storing and copying books written in various ways very easy. While in a Library you can read books within it for free, however creating a copy of a new book, getting a book from a different library, renting or buying a copy all cost money. Libraries will however pay you for books that you bring if there isn't a copy available or a book is in high demand or particularly if the Jade doesn't exist yet. And especially if the Jade doesn't exist elsewhere either (that means you're an author).

Writing doesn't really work out as a full-time job but a good writer can make a bunch of short stories and sell them for a nice sum. Since libraries buy jade from one another, if an author is popular enough their home library might pay them more.

  • Faction HQ -- If a faction has significant starting power in an area, they'll put their HQ here. The HQ is purely administrative.
