minigame 1 day 1 and on that poopdeck

Posted April 30, 2014 by MajorasMask9

The first night aboard the S.S. Gigantic was a foggy one...

Black Yoshi spent the night in the ship's Bar, drinking mug after mug of hot chocolate. The clock chimed midnight. "Yoshi!" Black Yoshi exclaimed, realizing he would be late for his planned Yoshi's Island play session with SDYoshi. He grabbed his unfinished hot chocolate and carried it with him, stealing sips along the way on his journey back to their room.

But Black Yoshi was lost... Maybe he took a left turn when he should have taken a right? Or maybe he took a right when it wasn't right to take a right right then? Whatever the case, Black Yoshi realized he had been walking aimlessly for several minutes and let out a despondent "Yoshi... :(." (cue studio audience "awwwwwh"s)

After wandering for what seemed like at least four minutes, Black Yoshi found himself outside on the poopdeck of the Gigantic. The thick fog obscuring his vision, he took cautious steps... one... by one... taking sips of his delicious hot chocolate along the way. Walking forward... careful not to run into anything...

"YOSHI!!!!"

Black Yoshi nearly choked on his hot chocolate, spitting it out in shock at what he had just walked up to.

Through the unusually dense fog, Black Yoshi saw the outlines of two individuals, standing near the rear of the ship, only a matter of feet in front of him. The fog had obscured his vision too much to determine the identities of the two people, but one thing was clear: one of the figures stood in a "ready-to-attack" pose, raising some sort of object above them, with the other person backed against the rails of the ship.

Black Yoshi's yell startled the attacker, and before they could lay a fatal blow, they dropped the object they were holding, making a *THUD!* as it hit the ground. The attacker frantically turned around and fled immediately.

It wasn't long before passengers from nearby rooms made their way outside to see what the commotion was all about. And in a seemingly scripted manner, the fog began to lift. What remained of the scene was S.S. Gigantic Sailor Apollo Justice standing in shock, and on the floor, a large and intimidating hunting knife.

The next morning, Helmsman Majora and Sailor Apollo gathered the passengers back into the Ballroom of the Gigantic for an impromptu meeting.

"As you may have already heard, last night at around 12:30am, an attempt was made on the life of a valued member of the Gigantic crew, Apollo Justice. Now, we know this news may seem alarming and disconcerting, but we of the Gigantic assure you that the cruise will continue as scheduled. We hope that this development does not affect your enjoyment of the cruise in any way, and hope you all have a wonderful, paranoia-free day. And remember, just because one or more of you are murderers, doesn't mean our 'no refund' policy will be revoked!"

The Helmsman and Sailor walked out of the Ballroom, leaving the twenty-two passengers sitting together in the room. All of them, together, in a room with murderers. What could possibly go wrong?...

Let's find out.

Question: how explicit exactly are these hints the Prophet gets each night? Could you post an example of a random role or something?

Oh, yeah, I realize this was never clarified in the last thread. Each night, the Prophet has a vision. Every Prophet vision will be of the same format, with five items given as "clues" to the identity of the person they pick. Some items may have nothing to do with their role at all. In the case of Townies, none of the items may have to do with anything. But in the case of any other special role, there will definitely be at least one item that is relevant to their role.

Hypothetical example:

During the night, an angel came to [the Prophet] with a vision of five items pertaining to MajorasMask9:

A copy of the Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask...
A folder full of drawings of the number 9...
A series of Nautical Charts...
An Ace Attorney: Trials & Tribulations poster...
A jar of Hellmann's mayonnaise...

Seeing as I'm the Helmsman, the nautical charts would be the clue to my role.

That gif of the guy in white is also a 10/10 hella cool

And to clarify about the Prophet, Apollo and I will make sure that none of the clues are completely straightforward to where it's blatantly obvious what the role is. I know the hypothetical example was pretty straightforward, but if they targeted the Cop for example, we're not going to have a "Sheriff's Badge" as an item, or anything like that. But it will still be possible to narrow things down given the clues.

We have a lot of roles to give us information (especially the Vigilante), so I see absolutely no reason to try and play risky this game. If we have slight suspicions, I hope the Vig will follow through on them in the night. Otherwise, I'm happy No Killing until we get something concrete.

April 30, 2014
The Bandit

So with vigilante and mafia two people will die tomorrow night correct?

April 30, 2014
Rapunzel

Up to two people can die per night, yes, and the Vigilante is required to kill every night. However, there is a Doctor and Bulletproof Vests in play, so there won't necessarily be two kills per night.

Apollo Justice

A jar of Hellmann's mayonnaise...

I agree with The Bandit. With two people able to die per night we might be dropping like flies. (Well depending on how well the VIG plays.) Probably best we don't add to those numbers unless we're sure of things so...

Everybody going with No Kill right off the bat doesn't give the Vigilante much at all to go on... Just because we're up 7 (we always are, at game's start) doesn't mean that doing nothing is smart.

wa hoo.

To be fair, no matter how long Day 1 goes on for, usually there isn't anything for the Vigilante to go off of anyway.

But seeing how prolonging Day 1 isn't going to change when Day 2 starts, I see no reason to be in a rush to end it early.

Out of curiosity, why The Bandit?

Jo Nathan

"I disagree with your argument, therefore mafia."

April 30, 2014

Hey, I've got just as good a chance at picking a mafia member as does the Vigilante.

Ready for murder but it's not gonna happen this round, realistically speaking.

Welp, we don't really have much to go on yet, but yeah, I'm not sure if going with No Kill is gonna help us out any. At this point in time we have a pretty good chance to get someone in the Mafia by at least randomly picking someone and going for it.

As much as I think Kyon's "I'm not mafia" quote was suspicious yesterday, I'm gonna go along the lines that he was hopefully just being goofy.

Therefore, I'm going to randomly vote for....

o_O;

uh.... well then, looks like the random vote generator sees my point of view.

I see your point Light about voting someone today, but I'll go with no kill just to be safe this round.

My point is that there's no reason for us to take this kind of risk, since the Vigilante HAS to kill someone every night anyway. If we could commit two day lynches, would you be OK with doing that at this point in the game? Because that's what you're advocating for.

April 30, 2014
The Bandit

Usual day one no kill for me.

April 30, 2014
Moonray

Vig needs to be careful about who they kill. A few mislynches and the possibility of two kills per night could end this very quickly for the town.

we don't have anything to go off of at this point. did you choose bandit randomly?

April 30, 2014
Vandy

I thought it was random tbh. I was just curious to see if he'd actually offer a rationale.

April 30, 2014

oh, hey, that was sudden. Not that I was going to disagree...two kills expected a night with a number of sensitive town roles around.

nnnn this minigame...Ace Attorney, 999, and Ghost Trick is like the trifecta of DS mystery <y3
