minigame 1 day 2 to whisper sweet nothings

Posted May 1, 2014 by Apollo Justice

At 3 A.M., hezekiah stared lifelessly at the ceiling of his room, unable to sleep despite the soothing sound of waves that lulled most of the other passengers into a deep, unknowing sleep. He sat up, and after apparently thinking for a minute, climbed down from the top bunk and rummaged through his bag. He swiftly put on a pair of his finest spandex shorts, along with a tank top reading “HIGHEST MAFIA SCORE”, with the back reading “hezekiah” and the number “70” below it. He then put on his sweatbands, and headed off to the ship’s gym for a late-night work out.

As he entered the gym, he saw a familiar face. “Sup Kyon.” Kyon reciprocated the head nod, and continued on the stair climber. hezekiah loved it when the gym was empty – it meant he could loudly blare his favorite music to break a sweat to. He set down his phone, hooking up the portable speakers to it, and let the beauty flow.

“So, how’s life been, guy?”

“Eh. Pretty good, I guess. Ya know, work. The usual. You?”

“Same… Same, always the same. Just want to break routine sometimes… I was hoping this cruise would be my escape, but so far it hasn’t brought me out of my box of insanity… Haha, well, you know.”

Kyon looked puzzled. “Yeah… In any case, I gotta ask you something. Just been on my mind.”

hezekiah gave him a head nod. “What’s up?”

“Did you believe all that crap about the passengers being evil? I mean, nothing bad has happened. It just struck me as odd. Even though I feel like it’s total B.S., I still have this sense of fear I can’t… shake. It’s part of the reason I can’t sleep.”

“I dunno, man. I haven’t been worrying too much, just seems like some silly story to scare us into paying more for “Mafia Protection” or some stupid bull like that. You know, these kinds of trips always try and get you into paying more for completely unnecessary services. I don’t need any damn towel drying for $14.99 a day, thanks very much. But it’s how they make more of a profit, just helps when you scare your customers. There’s not much more motivating than fear.”

“Yeah, I guess you’re right. Thanks, man.” Kyon wiped off the machine handles with his towel. “Think I’m gonna get going. I feel a little less tense, so maybe I’ll actually be able to sleep. Unless Vandy keeps up that snoring, sheesh. Can’t complain, though, he’s not a bad roomie otherwise. In any case, catch ya later.”

“See ya.”

Abruptly in the middle of squats, hezekiah lost the motivation to continue. “I don’t know what’s happened to me…”

A sudden, shrill scream from the hallway startled hezekiah.

He ran out, and saw Castrael cradled on the floor in a ball. “W-What happened?”

Castrael heaved. “T-T-T-There.. was.. I.. oh m-my God..”

WHAT IS IT?? Are you okay?!”

Castrael looked up. “There was a spider, a big hairy spider over there! Please kill it hezekiah, please!”

hezekiah released the most massive sigh of relief he ever had. “I... won’t even go there. Ok, just wait here. And please, for the love of God, do not scream like that again. It scared the hell out of me.” Castrael nodded frantically. “I-I’m sorry! It was just really scary…”

hezekiah took a tissue out of the side of his spandex shorts, and went spider hunting. “Come out, come out, wherever you are… Hehehe… It’s not gonna hurt, little buddy…”

As soon as the spider caught his eye, Castrael let out another blood-curdling scream. “I TOLD YOU NOT TO DO THAT!!! IT’S TERRIFYING!!!”

As soon as hezekiah turned around, he saw Castrael’s head… separated… from her body. A pool of blood surrounded her.

“O-Oh.. H-Holy f-f-u…”

hezekiah immediately ran, ran until he reached a vacant room, blocking the door with all of the heavy, wooden boxes inside. Tears of fear ran down his face, gasping for every last bit of oxygen his body could take in. He was shaking violently, suppressing the need to vomit with every last bit of his strength. He felt as though… He wasn’t… even there… his body… His mind… Did he even witness that? Was it even something that…. happened? This… Is it all a dream?

“Heh, what are you doing here? Don’t you know this is a private residence?”

hezekiah’s eyes shot wide open, and his mouth was left agape. Time… stood still.

“W-Who… P-Please, please don’t…. h-hurt…”

Before he could say anything else, a sharp burst of pain ravaged his body, and he immediately passed out. He was… dreaming. He dreamt… of a past trip, on a train. With Apollo Justice, the Sailor… Why would he be thinking of her on a train?

… Why would he be dreaming at all? Dead people don’t dream…

Dead people… don’t feel pain…

… What was that sharp pain…?

hezekiah opened his eyes, a blurry crowd of passengers surround him.

“OH MY GOD, HE’S ALIVE!”

“HEZEKIAH! HEZEKIAH!”

“W-WHAT IN THE GOOD LORD’S NAME HAPPENED TO YOU?!?!”

He opened his mouth, struggling to take in even the smallest, most shallow breaths.

“Castrael… she…

I…

I’m alive…”

Mercy struck the passengers aboard the S.S. Gigantic as hezekiah survived a brutal attack.

But Castrael, the Nice Whisperer… will rest in peace.

It was then that another passenger knew they’d have to pick up where she left off, in honor and vengeance… To bring justice in her death.

I think it's safe to say that Cas was the Vig target, so good job Vigilante. You know what you're doing. With Cas gone, we now know all OOG messages will be from a mafia role, which makes that guy totally useless.

As for the Doctor save, that's a pretty amazing call. I don't really know what to make of hezekiah being the mafia target (other than we now have a confirmed innocent).

I'm really digging these short rounds.

To clarify, the Apprentice has become the Nice Whisperer.

I'm afraid I don't follow some of the logic here. Why are you claiming that Castrael was a vig kill? Why are you commending the vigilante for killing a townie? And why are you assuming that the doctor saved hezekiah? Lots of confusing points brought up here

May 1, 2014
nutmeg94

We know that the Doctor saved hezekiah because he was targeted but not killed last night, meaning he had to have been protected by the Doctor.

...then again, there is a Townie with a Bulletproof Vest this game; they could have aimed for Hezy and hit his Bulletproof Vest instead. I'm willing to believe, though, that Hezy was Doctor-saved.

However, I'm not so willing to believe that just because Hezy was targeted for a kill means he's confirmed innocent. It mean's he more likely to be innocent, yes, but confirmed innocent...simply put, that fish is older than weid man's sex puns and I'm not buying it. He was targeted for a kill, but by which party we have no way of knowing for sure.

Black Yoshi

I totally forgot about bullet-proof vests, so yes that's definitely a possibility.

As far as why Cas is the Vig kill- the mafia would just never target her on Night1.

May 2, 2014
The Bandit

Enjoying the fast rounds too. Three-day-long rounds are annoying because 95% of the time everyone just glomps onto someone at the last minute.

Bandit's conclusions are... interesting. To say the least. I'd like to know what indicates it was a vig kill. But... that leads into my next request:

Hosts, if I could be a real jerk for just a minute: Would you maybe consider giving us a tl;dr version of night events? I appreciate the effort you're putting into a 'story' of sorts, but I don't really want to have to pick through it for key information. Sorry for the bother (:$)

Count Dooku

Ahaha, it's ok Dooku. Yeah, I was going to start putting in short summaries at the end of the posts, similar to the game I hosted back in November. I kind of forgot about that for this round though.

Summary of Night 1:

  • Castrael was killed. She was the Nice Whisperer.
  • hezekiah was targeted for a kill, but he managed to survive.
  • The Apprentice has become the new Nice Whisperer.

I'm leaning toward Bandit's conclusions. I think it's more likely that the Mafia would target hez rather than Cas. And the Vigilante has to kill someone. He may have been targeting what he thought was a weaker player.

And I think the Lovers are sharing a bullet-proof vest as well.

    May 2, 2014
    Lady Flare

...then again, there is a Townie with a Bulletproof Vest this game; they could have aimed for Hezy and hit his Bulletproof Vest instead. I'm willing to believe, though, that Hezy was Doctor-saved.

As Lady Flare said above, there are two bulletproof vests in play, so it's more probable that one of them, rather than the doctor, is what saved hezekiah. If that's the case, hezekiah is town-sided.

On the other hand, if the doctor saved hezekiah, that means one of two things: either the doctor used his or her first save on someone other than him or herself (unlikely imo) or hezekiah is the doctor.

Basically, whether he was saved by a vest or a doctor, hezekiah does not look guilty at all to me right now

    May 2, 2014
    nutmeg94

As was stated above, the Vigilante had no choice as he/she must make a kill each night. And at this point in the game it's just a wild guess as to who to kill.

I'm inclined to agree that hez was probably the Mafia kill since he is imo the stronger player.

Bottom line. We're down one. Hope we can get it right with our lynch.

Sorry, I missed the 'Vig must kill' thing. Don't we have a title that roles like that usually have? Like Insane Vig or something?

Anywho, interesting. It would seem our Vig is trying to minimize the negative effects of their power by targeting certain players.

    May 2, 2014
    Count Dooku

    Dat Xhin tho.
Very slim chance Hezekiah is scum. Let's go with that. Now stop the analysis.
We need to find a lynch. I won't put all my faith into vig.

Yes, it's the "Impulsive Vigilante" if you check the roles/threads ^_^

ITT: Dooku didn't read the original thread.

I'll go do that before I embarrass myself more.

    May 2, 2014
    Count Dooku

Woah I'm confused here. So hez is not confirmed innocent then even though y'all think mafia went after him/her?

    May 2, 2014
    Rapunzel

But anyway are there any suspicions?

    May 2, 2014
    Rapunzel

Hez isn't 100% confirmed innocent, but he's more than likely innocent (until proven guilty). For all we know, Cas could have been the Mafia's target in order to spite us into one of those "What the hell would they do that for?" scenarios, sort of like when I was Silencer last game and I Silenced Hindenburg on Night 1 just for the hell of it, and it left the whole town in an uproar.

    It's Mafia. Anything is possible.

    May 2, 2014
    Black Yoshi

The only way Hez isn't innocent is if he was attacked by the Vig and the doctor (who isn't him) saved him.
And in this scenario he can STILL be town.

    May 2, 2014
    SDYoshi

So the current votes are for Bubba and SD Yoshi? Just random or?

    May 2, 2014
    Rapunzel

There still isn't a whole lot to go on, so I'm kinda inventing suspicions of most people who have posted.

This guy is one such person.

    May 2, 2014
    hezekiah

Oh yes, question: are the Whisperer messages limited to a certain length? If longer than the maximum length supported by the Notifications system, how will the message be relayed?

    May 2, 2014
    hezekiah

Not really sure, but they strike me as random votes.

And I somehow missed that there are Lovers this game. {fp} I need to get more sleep or something.

Also I think The Bandit's reasoning for believing Cas was the Vigilante target is sound. The only reason I would suspect that maybe the Mafia killed her is if they for some reason thought she was a power role.

    May 2, 2014
    Jo Nathan

Don't play off my original vote as random, Jo.

    May 2, 2014
    SDYoshi

Oh yes, question: are the Whisperer messages limited to a certain length? If longer than the maximum length supported by the Notifications system, how will the message be relayed?

Technically, they can be longer than the notification limit. I haven't really gone in-depth about this as to not promote confusion about details, but the system I'll (personally) be using is to put the whisper in a .txt file, upload that via dropbox, and create a shortened URL using http://bombch.us (a URL shortener.) That way I can send the user a message similar to:

You received an anonymous message in mafia: http://bombch.us/[url]

Which makes it clear that the message was intended to be a mafia-related whisper, and isn't just me sending some ridiculous message to someone with no context :). Ideally I would still like them to fit in a GTX0 notification, though, as I'm not sure if Apollo could easily do something similar to what I'm doing. That way if she needs to send the whisper via straight-up GTX0 notification, it can still be done.

    May 2, 2014
    MajorasMask9

My apologies for the misunderstanding, SDYoshi. It merely appeared random to me because you didn't provide any reason for your vote.

    May 2, 2014
    Jo Nathan

Sorry, I was a way for the past day or so, so I'm kinda catching up and may have missed some stuff.

Is there a reason some people seem to be leaning toward Bubba at the moment? From what I can tell he's only posted like 2 times during the whole game. Neither of them being very suspicious (or helpful for that matter). If there is any info some one would like to share (or point out if I missed it)?

    May 2, 2014
    Lightvayne

So... what's the plan? By my estimation we've got slightly more than six hours remaining.

    May 2, 2014
    Count Dooku

Some people seem very interested in getting a kill off just for the sake of getting a kill off... Which just doesn't make a lot of sense.

    May 2, 2014
    The Bandit

    This is my plan.

Randomly killing is helping no one other than the mafia.

    May 2, 2014
    The Bandit

I hate No Kill on Day 2. But if we kill a Townie, and the Vigilante kills a Townie and the Mafia kill a Townie, we are down by 3 and our numbers advantage disappears quickly. We lucked out that we didn't lose 2 Townies Night 1. If I vote for someone it will be just a guess and it will be more likely to hit a Town role than Mafia. I say let the Vigilante have another stab at it for now.

    May 2, 2014
    Lady Flare

Hrm. Can't say I've ever seen us no kill twice.

    May 2, 2014
    Count Dooku

Actually I think Bubba is a sound choice. He coasts under the radar waaaaay too easily when he's Mafia. I'm in favor of eliminating him just to minimize the uncertainty he poses.

    May 2, 2014
    Count Dooku

Being inactive doesn't sound like a very reasonable reason to kill someone off, however maybe it will make him talk and explain himself.

Speedbikerpro hasn't really said anything at all this day round either, nor has Pirate_Ninja and I think a few others.

If Bubba turns out to be innocent however I think Count, hex and SDY have some explaining to do...

    Not voting.... yet

    May 2, 2014
    Lightvayne

Being inactive doesn't sound like a very reasonable reason to kill someone off, however maybe it will make him talk and explain himself.

Ordinarily no... we all get busy and have IRL things to deal with. Thing is with Bubba, his inactivity always works in his favor when he's Mafia. Because if you don't post (coupled with the usual inactivity of several players) its hard for folks to find anything suspicious about you.

If we had a closer ratio, I'd be against it. But we have a fairly decent chance of killing a Mafia because there are 7 of them. If Bubba comes up innocent, I'd take a closer look at SDY (Hezekiah seems less likely given the night events), but ultimately you aren't going to see the Mafia stacking the vote for someone at this stage. The Mafia can play extremely conservatively and still tie this game up in a few rounds - no need to stack votes.

    May 2, 2014
    Count Dooku

Although I suppose SDY could have made his initial vote because he's the prosecutor... hrm.

    May 2, 2014
    Count Dooku

Why not just ask our Vigilante to kill Bubba instead of risking the murder of two townies.

    May 2, 2014
    The Bandit

    Host clarification:

Prosecutor – Not officially sided with the Town or the Mafia, the Prosecutor will receive a target at random and will win once their target is lynched. If their target is night-killed, they will become a Survivor. - Apollo Justice

If the prosecutor's target is lynched the prosecutor 'will win' means what exactly? Game over, third party wins? Or they just get extra points and whatnot.

    May 2, 2014
    Count Dooku

They just get the extra points. The game will still end in a mafia or town win. ^_^

Seems legit. I guess I haven't been around enough to notice that :P

Although I suppose SDY could have made his initial vote because he's the prosecutor... hrm.

I'm with The Bandit on this one. I would agree the Vig should probably do all the killing then to avoid the prosecutor getting any "wins"

asking the Vigilante to off specific players instead of lynching them is an interesting idea, given that he's forced to kill each night and that it'll reduce the risk of rapidly losing our numbers. Otherwise, with the potential 2-for-1 loss of the Lovers, things could potentially get very ugly very quickly. It'd require that the Vigilante play along, of course, but the likelihood of Cas having been the Vigilante's choice makes me think there's a decent chance at cooperation.

I think that for now, the fewer chances we have of the Cop or Doctor dying, the better. Especially since our backup plan just ended up another whisperer :\

    May 2, 2014
    Pirate_Ninja

I mean, it's not like we're asking the Journalist for favors or something. The Vig is on our side and wants to win as much as we do. So unless he has a really good reason to kill someone else, I don't see why he would ignore us.

    The Bandit

Actually I think Bubba is a sound choice. He coasts under the radar waaaaay too easily when he's Mafia. I'm in favor of eliminating him just to minimize the uncertainty he poses.

I could see the benefits of letting the Vigilante do our dirty work for us, but I could see the risks as well. On the one hand, we don't know who the Prosecutor's target is, but on the other, we don't know who the Mafia are. All things considered, though, I'd rather the Prosecutor get a few points than the Vigilante accidentally take out our Cop or Doctor, so we need to be really careful with our suggestions.

But the Vig has no choice in killing each night... Like, what alternative is there where the Vig doesn't risk killing the Cop or Doctor? How does us not telling him who we think he should target prevent him from accidentally taking out one of our own?

    May 2, 2014
    The Bandit

I know the Vig has to kill every night, I was talking about us telling them to kill certain people. What I meant was I could see the benefits of us telling the Vigilante to kill someone versus letting them do their own thing, but I can see the risks with that as well.
