How the game works

The game is 90% automatic and 10% manual (just to make it more interesting / last longer).

Automatic gameplay

  • Wander around the game's 10 rooms interacting with things

  • Get the four (elements)

  • Pay attention to the things you're exploring and solve puzzles to get four more secret (elements).

  • Once you have weapons (see below), use them to automatically attack other players via the Sparring System.

    Manual gameplay

    You get (2) manual actions per round, and each round is 24-48 hours long.

  • Use the (elements) you have to interact with the environment and fashion weapons for yourself or upgrade/modify existing weapons.

    As an example, suppose you're in the mountains and you see a volcano. You have the (Fire) element, which lets you work with magma, so you use a manual action to:

    Use (Fire) to fashion a spear made out of magma


    When the round ends, I'll create that weapon for you and put it in your inventory. You can then use that to automatically attack other players without being reliant on me to handle combat.

    Then maybe you see some rocks so you use the (Earth) element to:

    Buff magma spear's damage by melting rocks into it via (Earth)


    At the end of the round, I'll add more attack power to your weapon.

  • be the last player standing.

    Use this thread to ask questions about the game or the new interaction system (should be pretty straightforward, click on what you want to do at the menu that runs along the top and then you'll be able to do the things you were able to do in previous NIFE games).

    Can you double check that the "Dead Branches" actually has an interaction that works?

    This does highlight something I was going to mention, feedback is pretty bad for some of these interactions. It should really go into your journal.

    Yeah you actually seem to have all the items in the game now.

    And also I agree. What other feedback do you have about the game / NIFE in general?

    Nothing on your game itself other than to say it's good (even if we don't have many players).

    When using this forum-less interface the User CP really feels like an unnecessary extra step to get to essential features (journal, crafting, etc) when you could just add them to the menu bar at the top with everything else.

    On the same topic (forum-less). I feel player interaction, specifically talking to each other, has taken a hit. I know you can go to the messages tab and put a message but I dunno if it really works that well especially with all the other messages that can build up in there. Perhaps add a chat section below the room description so that it's more "in your face" so that you can really see when players are talking.

    Yes agreed. I want to condense those interfaces at some point, but I ran out of time during the pre-launch checklist.

    That's very doable!

    [p:106739]. Activate the plugin and then you can use it on door locks.

    In this case I added "character has item" three times and set them to different items.

    There are two "hidden" rooms in the game that show the answers to the locks. Beyond that I'm not saying because you're the competition ^_^

    @Everyone: (who will be tagged individually and then those posts will be deleted)

    A couple of important things to keep in mind while playing this game:

  • The room descriptions will change as you guys change things in the game. Keep this in mind and look again before you make actions!

  • There might also be new rooms/mines/etc created depending on what players do exactly.

    Some more feedback-

  • Really no obvious what items in your inventory can do. Particularly annoying for weapons as you can't see their potential damage and/or additional effects.

  • Dead characters can still move and interact with the game as if they were alive.

    @Moonray: You're currently controlling your shade minion. Switch back to moonray and you'll get manual actions again.

    What I'm saying is there is no place for me to interact with the panel. Do you have to have the keys in your inventory in order to get the ability to interact with the panel?

    @chiefsonny: once you have the keys you can pass through the panel into the next room. You never actually interact with the panel.
