Since the computer forum has been terminated the only place left is here..

This pertains to a wireless Internet connection I have on one of my computers.

Whenever I boot up the computer it should automatically establish a connection, right? Well it won't.
In the notification area of the task bar is that little "double monitor" icon but it almost always has an "X" on it so I have to always right-click on it and choose "Repair" so it will do...something and eventually connect.

I looked at the device manager and everything seems ok and I doubt it is the router because it will connect after I "Repair" the connection.

So..any ideas?

Yeah, networking is a pain in the ass.

Google whatever you're using for a wireless connection, since there's usually a youtube for what you're trying to fix

Go back into the wireless profile, delete the wireless profile for that connection's SSID. To do that in Windows XP (because that sounds like the OS you're using if you're clicking the Repair option), go to:

  • Start > Run, type ncpa.cpl then click Ok.
  • Right click on the Wireless Network Connection, select Properties and then Wireless Networks tab at the top. Highlight an existing profile, then click Remove.

Now try connecting to your wireless AP again. It should prompt you for the encryption key again and save it properly.

fyi, you can also run a command or put this into a batch file, it does the same thing as clicking Repair.

    ipconfig /release && ipconfig /renew && ipconfig /flushdns

    Ummm..encryption key???

You mean the passphrase/password for the wireless connection utility?

Yep, that's the one because I just told you how to delete the one stored on your computer and start from over from scratch. It's like you never connected to it before.

Ok..I tried what you suggested but that did not work as no profile to delete.

The same is for my computer yet on the one I use I do not experience such a problem.

Now the other one that has the afore mentioned issue..when it does automatically connect and then I chose to shut down, I get a grey window saying that the "Wireless Network Configuration Utility" is shutting down and I have to wait.

THEN it tells me the program is not responding and I have to click the "End Now" button.

This leaves me to wonder if a program like Spybot is interfering.
