recruitment system

Posted July 9, 2013 by Xhin

This is a field guide for how the recruitment program will work. Should be useful for anyone who plans on applying to be a recruiter or an RD.

1. A Plan of Action is developed by Recruitment Directors or other Staff members. In it is:

a. The website or starting point for the recruitment campaign

b. The goal (ex -- what type of people we're trying to recruit)

c. The means of contacting people within the website

d. The means of persuading people to join this site.

e. Proof from a privacy/spam policy/or specific permission from the site owner to show we're not spamming the site or interfering in its function.

f. Separation of the task into "blocks", which run a reasonable amount of time each (say, 10-30 minutes).

2. Plans of Action are verified and approved by Recruitment Directors, or me until I feel that they're fully trained. A tool is then used to separate a PoA into blocks and add each block to the Task List.

3. Recruiters "claim" one task at a time (through a tool) and mark off when they've completed the task. They can add additional comments to their task which will be looked over by Recruitment Directors if there's an issue or something needs to be changed.

4. Experience in GTX0's levelling system is rewarded based on a "Referee" box for new accounts. The referrer will gain a percentage of the experience that a recruit earns up until a certain cutoff date.

5. Recruiters can also submit proof/explanation that they were responsible for new recruits. Such requests will be verified by me and experience will be awarded on a per-discretion basis.

Example

1.

a. The website or starting point for the recruitment campaign

www.theoldgametalk.com

b. The goal (ex -- what type of people we're trying to recruit)

We're trying to get GTers from this site to come to ours.

c. The means of contacting people within the website

A post should be made on every forum on the OGT.

d. The means of persuading people to join this site.

Explain how GTX0 is another GT community but with better features, and that the friends they're looking for may be there instead of at the OGT.

e. Proof from a privacy/spam policy/or specific permission from the site owner to show we're not spamming the site or interfering in its function.

Daniel (daniel@theoldgametalk.com) gave me permission to advertise on his site, provided that only one post was made per page in a forum.

f. Separation of the task into "blocks", which run a reasonable amount of time each (say, 10-30 minutes).

Block 1: Top row of forums on the quicklinks
Block 2: Second row of forums on the quicklinks
Block 3...

2. I look over the PoA, double-check the spam-free policy, and then use a tool to add twenty-four blocks to the tasks list (I'm actually not sure how many forums OGT had, it's been too long).

3. As a recruiter, I claim "Top row of forums on the quicklinks" in the tasks area. I read over the PoA (which should ideally be more detailed than that so recruiters can speed through them) and then make a post in each of those forums advertising GTX0, with a mention that they should list "Xhin" as their referrer and if they do, I'll help them make their MyCard look cool or something. I then mark off that I've completed that task (5 minutes) and do as many as my heart desires.

Meta-recruitment Strategy example

This strategy creates the basis for more plans of action by searching for specific websites to build PoA's for.

1.

a. The website or starting point for the recruitment campaign

www.google.com

b. The goal (ex -- what type of people we're trying to recruit)

The goal is to find websites that offer free blogs, because writers there are likely to be less notable.

c. The means of contacting people within the website

Go to www.google.com and type in "list of blogs". On each page of search results, check out websites and see if they offer video game blogs. If they do, put the website name into the "additional comments" section of the task list.

d. The means of persuading people to join this site.

N/A

e. Proof from a privacy/spam policy/or specific permission from the site owner to show we're not spamming the site or interfering in its function.

N/A

f. Separation of the task into "blocks", which run a reasonable amount of time each (say, 10-30 minutes).

Block 1: Page 1 of Google search results
Block 2: Page 2 of google search results
... Max: 50 pages.
