who wants to stop this and start a normal mafia game

Posted July 21, 2012 by Xhin

I probably made the game too complicated, so interest has waned (although being gone unexpectedly for three days probably didn't help either).

We could end this and start something normal if you guys want. I'd rather not kill this forum's activity if I can help it.

Who's on board?

I'm up for anything. I'm willing to continue the current game (only reason I haven't posted recently is that my Internet gave out right before I made my last post, and I am not logged in on my phone), but if the majority of other players want to start a new game I'll do that, too.

"I probably made the game too complicated

You think we're stupid?

SORRY BOSS, I should not have said that. I won't do it again{:(}

I'll go with the majority.

PLAGERISM!

Xhin stole his first line straight out of my reply in the game thread!{troll}

I think it'd be best if we started a normal game. I kind of miss the normal game.

6 in one, half a dozen in the other. Mafia is Mafia.

White Thunder

I'll go with whatever everyone else wants. I am paying very close attention to it all, just not talking.

Personally my issue isn't that it's too complex, its actually very simple (at least I understand it all easy enough). My issue is its not mafia, you've changed the game mechanics too much that it's no longer the same game.

Like chief, I'll go with the majority.

By the way, player scores haven't been updated from last game.

say restart with a classic game. The current one is proving to be too...Predictible. And it doesn't really matter which side wins if the players can be swapt at any given time. There are some of the changes that I like however. The idea of Rogue Townies can be played with. The Trickster is an interesting role.

The trickster would be a terrible role in a normal game. It either tells the mafia who is [targetted role] or forces a group to be quiet to avoid them finding out.

Yeah I realized once it started being used that it did the same thing as the voodoo lady, which I was trying to avoid.

Rogue townies are definitely cool, but you kind of have to change the death mechanics to accomodate them.

One of the things I wanted to fix (hence the death mechanics and green/red townies) was how boring the game is for normal townies, especially if you get killed every game without reason *cough*me*cough*. Maybe there's a better way around that.

thought the resurrection aspect really hurt things. If the town thinks a townie is Mafia, they lynch him and suspect that he died on purpose and that makes the person a target again. Which is what we have already seen.

Like Redack mentioned, a few of us have put quite a bit of thought into this game and that'll feel somewhat wasted if we restart. Still, probably even worse than that would be if certain members among us played as hard as they could only to wind up screwing themselves over when they find out they were Red Townies all along. I've had a lot of fun trying to figure this game's intricacies out but I'm not really a fan of the possibility of switching teams during the game. Ten points is a long way to go if we continue the game.

I'll also go along with the majority like everyone else.

The Trickster does seem like a bad idea after it being tried out. Because as brought up, it does pretty much force multiple people to pretend to be silenced to protect a role's identity from being revealed. And maybe it was just me but the tranformation idea along with dead-talk being allowed kind of made killing seem casual as heck compared to past games.

but there are only 5 active players. And the replies are hours a part. Nothing is happening. The game has essentially stalled.

The solution is more special roles. They don't have to do something spectacular. Something like the lovers (when both are active) works, it gives a regular townie something else to do but doesn't give the town any extra power to unbalance things.

can't believe I'm saying this, but I agree with Redack. Also I thought the Lovers was a great role. Especially if a seasoned player gets teamed up with a newbie 'cause then it acts like a tutoring session.

I haven't played since before the star wars game. I might join in if the game is back to the old format. I was just now getting the hang of it.

I also think that lancer (and myself?) need to figure out the points as far as the last game goes before the next game starts.

I posted points for the last game in the thread below like a week ago, haha.

gotta love Jo Nathan and Marvalo's - 1 for inactivity and the pity point for Zanic.

I'm all for playing a normal game again -- even if I was starting to get the hang of this game. I'd rather have a game loaded with special roles and few vanilla Townies however; it just makes the game interesting.

Black Yoshi

I found it quite ironic that the only person who responded to it was Jo Nathan. I just assumed that no one wanted to read my monster post. {:3}
